    My first badge bunny

I was eating dinner with my squadmates at Chilis and we were having a good time. A young and attractive blond woman in her early 20’s came to our table and sat in the chair opposite from where I was. At first I was expecting her to report a suspicious activity or to ask an irrelevant question that some people feel compelled to ask any time they encounter a cop.

She: Hi, what is your name?
Me: My name is geek4life. What can I do for you ma’am?
She: How long have you been a cop?
Me: About a year or so…
    She: Are you single?
(At this point my face was turning reddish in color)
    Me: Yes
She: Do you want to hang out sometimes? I want to give you my number
Me: I’m afraid I can’t do that ma’am. It is against my department’s policy.(I lied. This is not true)
She: Oh, OK. You can run my car plate and look up for my address.
Me: I’d get in trouble for that.(This is true)
She: Well, let me know if you change your mind.

She then left our table. The guys in my squad spent the rest of the night making fun of me for not taking her number.

I dunno if she is necessarily just a badge bunny; after all she asked you but not your co-workers so she was interested in you specifically. (Then again you might work with a bunch of geezers, hunchbacks, and sasquatches for all I know)

Obviously you are not a very big geek if you are turning down hot blondes who wanna go out with you

You obviously felt demeaned by an attractive young lady showing an interest in you! Hang in there Rook, you will soon come around!

Hmm. After all these years, I'm glad to see a hint of another badge bunnies thread on this board. If I'd been in the situation described, I'd have taken the number, and later called it. What the heck? You live this life only this time.

If that happened to me two letters would pop into mind IA. Officers are not allowed to turn any on duty contacts into off duty relationships. As ugly as I am a hot blond hitting on me would have to be IA. They actually have a sting team that goes around wearing mics and hidden cameras trying to bust coppers for violating policies. LAME

If you are looking for badge bunnies in the LA area PM me and I can tell you of a few bars they like to hang out at =)

I'm pretty sure IA doesn't care if some random citizen gives you her phone #. Hell, this is how some of my buddies met their SO's

It's a different story if she is a person in your call(witness/victim/reporting person, etc.)

    YOUR IA might not care.....

But, as MTX stated, it is against policy out here in LA, and the headhunters actually do stings to try and catch guys in violation......

Look, many long-term relationships and marriages have resulted from on-duty contacts converted to off-duty relationships. I married two of them (the evil E/R clerk and the lovely and talented Crime Analyst....my current and final wife).

IMO On-duty contacts will not always spell doom and gloom. Like anyone else, keep your pants on for the first few dates while figuring out their mental, emotional, and financial health.

IA usually only gets involved when bad things happen in any relationship, whether you were high school sweethearts, met at church, met on-line, or you met at Chili's.

You just, usually don't marry a girl like that, who offers you her number at Chili's...she probably hands it out to anyone sporting a badge, leather gear, and a gun.

How would you recommend that the citizen handle the situation?
The answer is so easy - next time you meet with this guy just make sure your "boyfriend" is with you. Find a good looking guy to pose as your man and your troubles are over... Ask your girlfriends who has a brother who lifts weights on a regular basis & wouldn't mind a little roleplay.

As for badge bunnies.... I have not seen any here in Wyoming, but when I was a Texas LEO in Houston, you didn't date a girl until you passed her name around the squad room for a list of who else has gone out with her first!

That is the most ridiculous thing I have heard of. It is obviously policy violation to attempt to get intimate with informants, victims, or folks involved in ongoing investigations, but getting in trouble simply for taking a phone number from someone that expresses intrest is idiotic.

Like anyone else, keep your pants on for the first few dates while figuring out their mental, emotional, and financial health.
Exactumundo...though I would add that I don't believe anyone is hitting on us for financial reasons.

She might have just liked YOU for YOU!!

That sucks that in some places you cant even meet anyone while on duty. I can understand if it's someone you arrest, or even a witness or someone you'll have to deal with again in court or something. But just someone you may meet while in uniform that you're not "allowed" to date - like i said, sucks.

I really feel bad for those of you who dont like it that most guys look good in a uniform. It's a fact. Sorry that you have to live with it

(And yeah UPS and USPS, this means you too!)

Around here, I don't hear much about badge bunnies, but female officers who go from male coworker to male coworker. And every now and then one is dumb enough to marry one of these nut cases. Guess how long those usually last.
