LOUISVILLE (WAVE) -- A Clark County, Indiana police officer responding to a domestic situation was shot in the face late Monday night. The shooting happened around 11:35 p.m. on State Road 62 near New Washington.

Officials with the Clark County Sheriff's Department and the Indiana State Police say they are looking for 33 year old Douglas Frakes, Jr. in connection with the shooting.

Frakes is described as a white male, standing 6'3" and weighs 170 pounds. He has brown hair in a mullet and blue eyes. When last seen, Frakes was wearing blue jeans and a black and white Starter t-shirt.

During an overnight press briefing, officials say that Clark County officers were responding to the domestic situation when the shots were fired. They say it appears Frakes was waiting in the woods for officers and fired on them when they arrived. One Clark County officer was hit three to four times. Other officers returned fire to provide cover while the injured officer was taken away from the scene.

The injured officer, whose name has not been released, was airlifted by StatCare to Louisville's University Hospital. He was listed in critical condition and was in surgery as of 2 a.m. Tuesday.

Police say that Frakes is considered armed and dangerous. He is a hunter and knows the area well. Neighbors are asked to lock their doors and only answer them for police officers.

If anyone has information on where Douglas Frakes, Junior is, call the Clark County Sheriff's Department at 812-283-4471 or the nearest law enforcement agency.
