11-99 Deputy Down
I believe this was already reported here however I wanted to bring everyone up to speed. Kent Haws, a Detective with the Tulare County Sheriff's Department, was shot and killed in the line of duty on 12/17/07. Det. Haws was assigned to the S.T.E.P. unit, the Sheriff's Tactical Enforcement Personnel unit, which is basically the SWAT team that also performs as a POP team and problem area enforcement unit. Det. Haws was in uniform, in a marked patrol car, when he was shot and killed by a suspicious person that he was checking on. The suspect is in custody.
Bottom line is, I worked with Kent for a couple years in patrol about six ago and I believe that he deserves the respect and admiration of all law enforcement personnel for his sacrifice.
Kent has three children, please donate, if you cant, to:

I understand this is an old thread, however as of today there has finally been a small bit of justice with the jury finding the murderer, Jorge Banda, both guilty and sane. His sentencing will be October 18th. Unfortunately, he cannot be given the death penalty because of a previous hearing in which he was found to have too low of an IQ to be placed on death row....
