Question Denied by the Fairfax Police Explorers Program

Well I recently got denied by the Fairfax County Police Explorers Post... kinda sucks... I was really looking forward to the ride alongs and seeing the bomb unit and there robots. Hi, im Anthony and im 17 years old. I was just wonder, because I got denied by the Explorers Program does this mean I can not be a police officer for this county? I basicly got denied for possession of marijuana.... this happened 2 years ago when I was 15 years old. But when i got caught the officer never made me go to court. He basicly called my parents and told them what happened and my parents had to sign some papers to take custody of me.
Then the officer said i was going to be on probation and he never gave me a ticket? i never had to go to court at all? can this be because it was my first offense??? im still confused why he didnt charge me???

    questions for the officers.

1.since i got denied by the Explorers program does this mean i cannot sign up for this department again?

2.Does this mean i will not get hired by other agency and Fairfax?

3.About that marijuana incident, it was my first offense. and i was wondering why i did not get charge??? but instead the officer gave me probation???
    i still do not understand???

4.I heard that once you hit 18 that your records would be gone and everything would clear and be clean again? but how??? and is this even true??? Am i suppose to do something like community service so my records get clear?

Possession of a small amount of MJ at the age of 15 will not prevent you from becoming a police officer.

Keep you nose clean, get good grades in school, develop positive and healthy habits, and you'll do just fine.

I'm not framiliar with Virginia law, but it does not sound odd at all that you were not charged. You wouldn't be in NYS either, if the amount was small.

Officers don't grant probation. That's a function of the courts. I can't specifically address the reason for your not being admited to the Police Explorer Program. I would suggest you respectfully contact the Officer(s) in charge of the program to see why you were not allowed the join the unit. As far as future applications to police agencies are concerned. I don't see the incident you cited as being grounds for DQ. Be certain to mention the situation in any Background Packet or Personnel History statement.

The office then takes a juvenile petition (criminal complaint) to an intake officer who can divert the process and keep it out of court if they believe it was a one time error. That seems to be the case in this situation. The intake officer obviously diverted it and kept it out of court and probably gave him a drug class and probation. Just information on the process in VA for everyone.
As to why you were denied for the explorer program I would venture to guess it definitely had something to do with your past intercession. This should serve as a hard learned lesson on the ramifications of your every day choices.
Would this keep you off of a police department when your old enough if you keep a clean record? NO WAY. It’s too recent to let you qualify for the explorer program but 6 years later it will barley be a blip on the radar. Keep your head up and apply again. Lots of people don’t make it the 1st time.

OHhhhhhhhhhhhhh now it makes sense and yea I did probably misunderstood? Because I remmember him talking about something about probation??? and he would get me the info? but he never did? he was just talking to my parents the whole time and explaining the situation to them.

    Thank you guys so much
    that was very helpful
and i am staying clean and my grades are pretty good except in 1 class...
    but im working on that.
    thanks every one
