Is this a rumor or are they actually changing the look of the ID card? If true, this must have been fairly recent. I got my ID card renewed last month and its the same ID card except the expiration date is in red.

If they are changing the look of the ID its probably in response to that idiot EDP Auxiliary who got arrested for impersonating a real cop by blacking out the words "auxiliary" on his ID card.

I'm sure that if they are phasing in a new ID card, it would probably not have the NYPD emblem on it or the words "police" anywhere on the card to prevent a repeat of that impersonator incident.

Plus, the NYPD would probably make the card so hideously embarassing it would effectively prevent any auxiliary from showing it off to anyone!

From what I understand, it was b/c of that EDP.

Wow those ID's really make law enforcement know you are an auxilliary.

At least the old ones were able to be hidden with the right wallet.

    LOL.

    EDP's everywhere.

What I don't understand is this, I keep hearing people saying that we (Auxiliaries) won't/can't be assigned non crime jobs by central because of liability concerns, but how is the city more liable if central assigns us the job as opposed to us "picking up" the job while out on patrol or if we "roll into" the job?

In both cases we are signed in on the 10 sheet, in uniform, on duty and considered an employee of the City Of New York.

At my command, I routinely do traffic control and crowd control at accidents and emergencies and at details, so how would the city be more liable if something happened if central assigned us the job?

At my command we are only posted where ever the desk SGT needs us most to cover. Sometimes the C.O or the Community Affair officer assigns us to events that there aren't many officers to cover. Sometimes we happen to pass by scenes where the Sgt there need us to direct traffic or block it or serve as translator. Its not really that bad but if we can do more, then I won't really mind.

Yeah lol. I seen many people hide the auxiliary part with the neck ID holder so that people can only see the Police Deparment side

    Whats a 10 sheet?

On duty? You mean volunteer duty.

You are NOT considered an employee of the City Of New York. There is a misrepresentation in that part within the admin code of the civil defense part.

In case you should happen to get injured while in the course of an auxilliaries duties, you MAY be eligible to recieve compensation for it via a loophole within the workers compensation claims act. This does not mean you are an employee, it simply means you were REPRESENTING nyc while in uniform.

Its the only right thing to do.

Now... see when you screw up and see how fast everyone will wipe their hands clean from you. Employee my foot.

    NYCTNT:

The "10 Sheet" is the APS #10 Roll Call form all Auxiliaries have to sign in on when we report for duty and prior to going on duty. And yes, I said "on duty," since I am an Auxiliary Police Officer, I can either be "on duty" meaning that I am signed in on the roll call form and am performing duties assigned to me by either my Auxiliary Coordinator (A Police Officer) or my Auxiliary Supervisor or even sometimes the CO or XO of my command. Or I can be "Off Duty" meaning that I am not signed in and out of uniform and not performing any official duties.

Even though Auxiliary Police are not paid, we are still considered "employee's" when signed in (On Duty) that is why we are eligible for workman's compensation under the labor law, not because NYC or the NYPD is so kind or generous with the Auxiliary Police, just as unpaid "interns" with companies, corporations and government agencies are eligible for workman's compensation if they get hurt because even though they don't receive a paycheck, they are still "working" for that organization.

And as far as when you state:

"Now... see when you screw up and see how fast everyone will wipe their hands clean from you. Employee my foot"

I see you say "when" I screw up and not if I screw up, you must really have a high opinion of us huh? The only response I can give is just like in any other part of life, nobody knows what is going to happen until it happens and as far as me personally, I conduct myself as professional as most Police officers in my command and more than several, so I don't worry about what may happen at some future time, I do my best now and so far I have received no complaints but many, many compliments from all my supervisors, auxiliary coordinator, XO and CO of my command, all the way up to a NYPD two star chief on many occasions.

I say that there is no need for us to get into this sort of argument again..

If you roll back to the pages on this forum, we were arguing half of the time, and did anything change? Nop. EDPs still everywhere.

Btw, NYCAPO, please send me a PM of the picture. I am curious to see how it looks like.
Do the right thing and let's go home. Trust the man next to you. Don't leave anybody behind.

Exactly. And if you look at previous posts by TNT, you'll see that he says he does support the program.
