    Baseball Bat

I was wondering as to what can actually happen to someone who has a baseball bat in the trunk on their car all the time. Can the police do anything if they see it in plain view or search the car?

"Do" anything? What would they do?

Since when is it illegal to have a baseball bat in the trunk of a car? The guy could belong to a softball league.

Now, if said bat had large nails drven through it, and had blood and hair stuck to it, I'd look a little closer.

What's the situation? If it's a case where there are mailboxes that are reported smashed and say a witness saw someone that fit the description of the person and/or vehicle, then yeah, it would be some form of reasonable suspicion.

Wanna keep a ballbat in the trunk of your car for "just in case" ?

Slip a ballglove with a baseball over the handle.Throw a ballcap and maybe a old sweatty T shirt in with it.

"Camoflage" it. It'd be hard to prove in court that it was a weapon, unless you're in Ca. or Mass. or NY. or NJ.

Sometimes a deadly weapon is only considered a deadly weapon under circumstances in which it's used or threatened to be used as such. Your tire iron could kill someone just as easily, and I'm sure that's in the trunk too.

However, don't have it in hand if you get pulled over. The nice police officer gets jumpy when that happens.

Why keep it in your trunk? Throw it in the back seat. I see a lot of people doing this for protection. Better than illegally carrying a gun.

Kieep in mind that if you jump out of your car with the baseball bat, the guy in the other car might just have a gun. Then you're really up s**t's creek.

    Thumbs down LEAVE BAT HOME

Let's see "Take a Basball Bat To a Gun Fight" ?????
If you are concerned because you are carrying a bat for protection and you actually hit someone with it it becomes a deadly weapon and we cuff you and take you to jail charged with a felony and you don't get out very easy. If the person you hit dies you get a murder charge. You also get sued etc.

Leave the bat at home unless it's baseball season and you're playing agame that day. Walk away and live and enjoy life rather then protect yourself with a bat.

Did you guys know that the postal inspectors (federal officers) love to hear about mailboxes that get smashed. It seems the mail box really does not belong to the homeowener but rather to the U. S. Post Office and it's federal offense to smash one. We had parents that had to pay for 87 mailboxes after three kids bragged at school about smashing them with of all things a "baseball bat"

I stopped a car I saw cruising a lot; obvious they were looking for someone. 4 guys in the car, all 4 had a ball bat. I asked them what they were doing, the usual shakedown stuff. I then asked them what the deal was with the baseball bats. They said they had been playing softball(at midnight?). I then told them they had 15 seconds to produce a ball and a glove. Needless to say, 4 ball bats were confiscated that night.

Like any other weapon, if you choose to use a ball bat for one, you'd better either be adept in using it, or slick it up real good with Vaseline, Crisco, or axle grease!

I agree with Bodie since football is entering the playoff's now unless you have some kind of personal relationship with your bat I'd leave it home to baseball season.
