    Detective Clothing

Just out of curiosity, what do the detectives in your departments wear for work during their shift hours? What do they wear if called in off duty for a case? Is the uniform any different for women? I ask because our department is looking at changing things.

    Thanks for your 2 cents!

duty day - khaki's or slacks, polo or button down

court - suit or blazer and tie

after hours or call out - clothes (leather thong with chains and ball gag is frowned upon - unless you work sex crimes)

Shirt and tie for detectives who aren't working street assignments. Vice, narcotics, and other detectives who do street level enforcement wear more casual clothes.

We wear coats and ties. We tried to casual it down to Dockers and regular shirts and of course some dips pushed the line to the breaking point.

The Drug Unit detectives can wear whatever they want, and most of them look like they just came from the local homeless shelter.

Regular detectives have to wear a button-down shirt w/tie, dress slacks, and dress shoes.

You'd think they'd be made with velcro by now.
