    Tips for the NYPD JST?

I did a search on the JST within this forum and couldn't find anything. So here goes...

I understand one has to be fit for it, that is obvious. What I had some questions about were:

Do they do a demonstration for everyone before it begins? I am particularly thinking about the resistance machine.

Do they allow logos on the clothes/shoes you wear for the JST?

How do they pick the starting order?

Can one call up Candidate Relations/Scheduling and go to a JST test as an observer?

If anybody else can think of something helpful please add it. Thanks again!

    - With the resistance machine, if your feet pass the marks on the floor, you're okay. You don't have to move the "arm" of the machine over the tape.

    - With the trigger pull, don't hold the firearm sideways in a gangsta pose like somebody from my company did during our first JST in the Academy. You will promptly be disqualified.

Don't over-think it. The JST was pretty damn easy, if you ask me.

LOSE WEIGHT NOW if needed and make time for exercise! Do you really want a criminal running backwards laughing at you talking about you can't catch him. I like watching Southland one of my favorite cop shows and I'm seeing cops getting heart attack and back problems trying to catch criminals. With the hiring process being about 3 years, I recommend you guys hit the gym if needed or buy an exercise machine. Its funny, most cops I see these days always seems out of shape, but they still manage to get that uniform lol.

Lol I want to gain muscle, I'm 6'4 and around 170, I want to be at least 180-175 before the academy starts. I'm an athlete though so I think I'll be fine.

JST is pretty easy if you have some coordination and are somewhat athletic.
At the end of the JST, you will def feel some burn in your legs and it will pass.

I waited 3 years to get the call and during the wait (mainly during the year before the call), I ran (about 3 -4 times a week), lifted some weights and I got into decent shape. I had some shin splints, foot pains and plenty of muscle soreness. I wouldn't say the gym is a joke because the instructors are in good shape however, I've never fell out of a run so far and I don't think I will while in the academy.

My advice is that, most people will pass the JST but def start training yourself as you are waiting anxiously for the call so the physical portion won't bother you when its your time.

    Good luck

Like previously stated if you're athletic and aren't over weight you'll feel the burn but it's still pretty easy...
