Got the call yesterday, academy starts December 19th!
So yesterday I got the phone call that I have been waiting for for years.
An H.R. rep for the department that I had finally finished and passed everything in the hiring process for a few weeks back called me and told me my official hire date will be December 6th, after I pass the physical for the academy on December 5th. I have been beyond ecstatic, excited and teary eyed
I can't wait for the changes and new challenges that life has in store for me, I can't even express it.
I just found out my wife is pregnant too!
So, I start the academy on December 19th, less than a month from today!
I would appreciate any advice on how to prepare, or what extra gear I should get before the academy, or any advice from you experienced folk would be much appreciated!!

Your first sentence would have been more funny if it was "the phone call that you had been waiting for for four years"

Good luck, stay focused, be on time to everything (read: be early), and always act like someone is watching you. Do the right thing, and you will be fine.

Congratulations times two.
Run everyday till then, yes, you can rest on Sundays. When you can run everything else falls in place. Maybe three miles on Mondays and Thursdays. On Saturdays run 1 1/2 miles for time on a quarter mile track. Aim for 9:00 or better.

I remember when I got hired. Never forget the feeling you have right now. Also, start running daily like another poster said. Congratulations!

Congratulations! That's a great feeling. Follow the wise advice of the previous posters, and make sure to push yourself really, really hard to be in shape for the academy. That way, you can show off in front of your class with how ripped and in shape you are. Make sure to let your instructors and classmates know. They will love it.

Thanks everybody, I am so pumped ! !

I definitely have been keeping in shape, I do CrossFit, lift weights and play soccer but I am going to really kick it into high gear for the next 25 days in preparation.
When I joined the Army at 18 I thought I was in shape when I showed up to Basic Training, I was dead wrong! Not going to let that happen again!

Run, Run, Run. Get good at push ups and situps. Congrats on getting in! Don't forget what a privilege it is, to be hired in this profession. One of the hardest jobs to get, one of the easiest to lose.
R.I.P. #2083, You will never be forgotten.

Inmates seem really into counting the number of officers it took to take them down. If only their love of math had blossomed earlier.
