Fitness Requirements
At the department that I'm training for the fitness requirements are as follows:
5 pushups
6.1 on the 'Beep Test'
30 kg grip test
A short agility run
A climb over a 1.3 meter obstacle
Swim 100 meters in 4 minutes with no stops
A prone bridge plank for 60 seconds
To be accepted into training you have to be able to complete all of the above successfully.
When you joined (Note I'm still in training) what were you fitness standards?

I don't remember exactly what the physical agility test was back in 1988, but I think this is pretty accurate:
-Run 25 yards
-Climb a six-foot wall
-Run 10 yards
-Go over one hurdle, under one, over one - 24"hurdles
-Walk a balance beam
-Drag a 165 pound dummy 50 feet and set it on a three foot high platform.
Two minute time limit; it was either a five or 10 second penalty for each hurdle knocked over.
Fairly easy test, especially for kids in their early 20s. At that age, almost anyone who isn't a total gimp can pass it.
I wish we had ongoing PT standards. Fortunately, very few cops in this area are out of shape because of the overall lifestyle. So many people work out (Crossfit began and is headquartered here and a couple of our guys were among the first certified Crossfit coaches), run, mountain bike, surf, etc. i'd still like to see mandatory standards, or at least voluntary with a pay incentive.Government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem. - Ronald Reagan

5 push ups?? That's hilarious. 32 push ups, 40 sit ups 11:58 1.5 mile run, for our dept.

They don't even mention sit-ups but we have had to do them in training. What do you mean by 11:58? Anyway I think it's poor standards, we have a good force in general though. It's strange I've only seen 1 or 2 overweight officers. The rest of them look strong and fit.

How many years have you been in?
-

Our agency varies based upon age, less strict the older you get. My current bracket is minimum of 27 push ups/minute, 37 situps/min, 1.5 mile run in less than 12:51. These are all minimums, if you don't want to look like a bag of trash you try to exceed these at any opportunity. We do this twice a year.

That's good you guys have standards to keep up. I'm not sure if we do or not, I should probably find out.

AZ POPAT, 175 dummy drag for 25? yards, 100 foot obstacle course, 2 6' wall jumps and a 500 yard run. Nothing intense but mirrors a bunch of real world scenarios I've been in.

2.6 is a good height. 1.3 isn't enough, when I have to jump a wall or a fence I'll probably screw it up.
