    The Minneapolis VA Health Care System (MVAHCS) will be filling two positions for Police Officers under PD#5218A at the GS 6 level. (The MVAHCS is part of the VHA Midwest Healthcare organization known as VISN 23, which includes facilities in Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, and the Dakotas.) Police Officers are responsible for enforcing the Department of Veterans Affairs, Federal and state criminal codes, regulations and statutes in the physical protection of patients, visitors and employees.

    Work Schedule: Rotating shifts

    Position Description Title/PD#: 5218A at full performance level of GS 6

    Relocation Expenses: Relocation expenses are not authorized for this position.




    As a Police Officer you will be required to carry a firearm while performing duties and must maintain firearm proficiency. Patrols numerous facility buildings and grounds for security and safety purposes. While on patrol you will work independently using police security skills to respond to reports of crime, violence, traffic accidents, and conduct crime scene investigations. You must be ready to defend yourself and/or others against physical attack and will be required to carry a firearm while performing duties, and must maintain firearm proficiency. You will apprehend, arrest, or direct the arrest of individuals who have violated Federal or state criminal codes. You'll prepare written official reports of each offense or event observed with accuracy using appropriate forms and procedures. Must maintain emotional and mental stability if physically assaulted or threatened as well in the day-to-day activities.



    This position requires working rotating shifts and you must possess a current valid driver’s license.

    Time-in-grade: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.



    Applicant(s) must have one (1) year specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level.



    Specialized Experience:

    Specialized Experience that provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    The duties of these positions require moderate to arduous physical exertion and/or duties of a hazardous nature.     none are going to MPD two transfered to other VAs one transfered to another federal agency and two are deployed...so I guess they are going to have three opening for sure do not know if they are going to temp hire to backfill the other two spots...

    I met one of the VA officers last night who said they were pretty short staffed right now. They also seemed to agree with squad51's "5 spots" number.
