Hey guys, my best friend will be travelling through Kansas with her dad's small caliber firearm to her home in North Dakota. What is your states laws regarding this?
I assume by your posts that she will be traveling up the 81/135 hwy.
Open Carry of a loaded handgun in most of Kansas is just fine.
Cities may enforce their own laws/ordinances regarding carry/transporting a firearm if she does NOT have a concealed carry license that is recognized by Kansas. If she does have a CCL then she can carry anywhere there is not a "gun buster" sign. (gun with a red slash and circle.)
The only city I know of that would be on her route that does NOT allow for open carry of loaded firearms without a CCL would be Wichita. Driving through there would require her to put the weapon in the trunk unloaded or out of her reach.
The rest of her journey through Kansas she can open carry the weapon if she would like.
