What are the pistol and long gun purchase requirements in AZ?
I will be residing in your wonderful state for 5 months while in specialized training for the army.
18 U.S.C. 922(t)(1)(C): IDENTIFICATION OF TRANSFEREE
27 CFR 178.124: FIREARMS TRANSACTION RECORD
A member of the Armed Forces on active duty is a resident of the State in which his or her permanent duty station is located, and may satisfy the identification document requirement by presenting his or her military identification card along with official orders showing that his or her permanent duty station is within the State where the licensed premises are located.

As under Federal law, be over 18 for a long gun, 21 for a pistol. Then,
1. Have $$
2. Complete 4473 form
3. Wait for dealer to call NICS (about 3-5 min)
4. Pay dealer, leave store with new gun.
Also: CCW, no permit required (Do not go into a place that serves booze or is posted no guns), open carry OK, Full Auto & Supressors OK (comply with Federal law).
If you will be down around FT. H, or YPG be really careful of smugglers in the back country, on and off the post.
Enjoy your stay.
An thank you for your service to our country! It shows you are a "better man" (see my tag line.)"A man who has nothing which he cares about more than he does about his personal safety is a miserable creature who has no chance of being free, unless made and kept so by the existing of better men than himself."

To answer the OP's question, as stated in the title...
If you live in Arizona, yes, you are required to purchase a pistol and a long gun...
Hope that helps
