    Age requirements for police divisions

Does state, municipal, county, city, transit, etc. all have the same 35 years old age cut off for applying for the police?

Yes, all police officer positions in the state have a cut off at 35. You can't be older than 35 to apply, but you can still get hired if you applied before you become 35. So say you registered for the civil service test at 34, you are eligible to be hired through the full 2 years of the list being active. SO and CO have no age limit.

both State and County Corrections, Sheriff's positions, Campus police, and private police (IE NJ transit, Princeton University, etc) do not have the 35 years of age cutoff. You must be 35 years of age or younger when taking the civil service test for a municipal police officer position. I had a guy in my academy class who was 36 years of age and made the cutoff because he was 34 years old when he took the civil service test and turned 36 after he was hired, and before the academy. The 35 year old cutoff is because of the Police and Fire Retirement System (PFRS) age cut off for enrollment. There is a waiver for those veterans who are older than 35, where their service time IN COMBAT ZONES, is taken used as a credit for waiver purposes. For example, if John Doe is 38 years of age when he retires from the U.S. Army after 20 years of service, and served 4 years total time overseas in combat zones, then he is 34 years of age for hiring purposes and thus eligible for any municipal police position. I hope this helps you.

Sheriffs department can be any age, but you would have to go into PERS. They had one guy in his early 60's in the academy a few years ago. He worked until mandatory retirement at 65.
Being a good street cop is like coming to work in a wet suit and peeing in your pants. It's a nice warm feeling, but you're the only one who knows anything has happened.
