    Zone 14 Academy

Did anyone attend this Academy out of the College? It is a self sponsorship Academy near Albany.

I was thinking about doing it for PT work (too old for Full Time in NY) but I'm not sure if I want to give up 4 nights and 1 weekend day for a year and not get an opportunity to find work as a part time officer. I did a lot of research and have found out that working PT I can avoid the civil svc requirements (age) but majority of the Departments up here that do hire PT tend to hire retired Officers.

    Thoughts or Success stories?

    Thanks

I am going to attempt to get sponsored by some small towns/ villages. IMO 4 Nights, and 1 weekend day is a lot weighing all the factors, But it gets your foot in the door.

Does any one know for Zone 14 Columbia Green CC academy if you can enroll and self sponsor. Or do you need a sponsor for the entire academy? Or is it a mix?

You cannot enroll, you need a sponsor. (I've been trying to get one for two years). Good luck to you.

As has been already stated you will need an agency to sponsor you into the academy. Its not easy and most that do get sponsored are friends or relatives of people already in law enforcement.

I've looked everywhere. Trust me. Civil Service is such a damn joke. Been trying for 3 years now. Basically if you don't have a 90-95% on an exam you can pretty much count that out.

Yep. I heard it's because if you are injured while being sponsored thay have to pay your disability for the rest of your life. It's a huge risk for a department to take.

You're telling me. I've heavily debated relocation to the south, or the VA area.
