Is a cac equal /better than state issued DL/ID with regards to travel etc (less headaches)? Also would a passport be a better idea even if I don't leave the country?
edit: can I use cac as picture id for obtaining passport?
What is a cac? To obtain a passport you need proof of citizenship, ie birth certificate, and i believe two other forms of ID. Like a DL and a SS# Card. Go to the State Department website for the exact details.

CAC is only good for identification on a military base. Use your DL if your going to travel.

CAC is a DoD Common Access Card. Its issued to all DoD employees and is also military identification.

Thank you. No one told me so I wasn't sure. I was hoping it would be similar to a passport with it being such a P.I.T.A. "Due to your Great Aunt's speeding ticket three years ago and your friend's sister's bankruptcy one year ago we are forced to deny your application." joke.
