    D.A.V.I.D system

Can someone please explain the basics of the D.A.V.I.D system? What comes up when you run a license tag? What information can you obtain about a subjects driving and/or criminal history, ect?

I've searched the internet with few results.

Current and past DL photos, addresses, citations issued as well as court decisions, suspensions, fines, etc etc etc. It's a fairly detailed system.

On a side note, I find it to be an absolutely invaluable tool on the road. #1, it lists things dispatchers sometimes miss (we're all human, it happens) and #2 it makes life so much easier as a road officer.

DAVID gives you all information about a person in reference to their FL drivers license, from whether it's valid or not, to past DL photos, citations, DL activity history, and all vehicles registered to you. No, it does not give you someone's criminal history. Criminal history comes through NCIC/FCIC. DAVID is only information from the DMV.

If you receive a citation in some other states, it will show up in DAVID also.

What is the DAVID system? A cops best friend! There's no reason people shouldn't look up everyone's history through DAVID and whatever their reporting system is.

As everyone else has said David is a wonderful tool, especially when people want to play the name game.

Thanks for the replies. When you make a traffic stop on a violent convicted felon, do you get a warning, or do you have to run the persons license first?

Almost every law enforcement agency in the state uses DAVID. Its the official database provided by the DHSMV for related information.

I've only ever heard of one agency that doesn't use it, because the state took away their access (as well as FCIC/NCIC) because of misuse (it was a very small department, and for all I know they have it back by now - this was a couple years back)

oh interesting... if they didn't have anything, what did they use?

is DAVID the one that you enter the info, and then when you get results it starts beeping at you? and the closest matches are 100% and the other close ones are under it with less %?

As I remember it, they had to call the county and have their dispatches run everything or use teletype. I don't know the exact details, I just remember being in a training class with another officer who said they had to call the county to run stuff because their department lost its access.

Thinking back about the reality of the situation, though, it was probably more a matter of the department being small only had a few dispatchers, and they probably just lost their privileges as individuals, but being a small department, that left them without anyone NCIC certified or with access to DAVID

The beeping is all dependent on how your agency has your system setup and what software they use. Some of the local agencies around here their computers talk to them when they run someone. As far as the % thing, you are talking about NCIC/FCIC. It will give you their info and then another screen with maybe their info or close matches listing warrants, injunctions, probation, etc....

I too love DAVID, especially when they "forgot" their ID. As long as they have or had a FLDL or ID card, you can pull their picture and confirm their identity. Also very handy when doing traffic to refer to their driving record. I've heard rumor they may be adding traffic warnings into DAVID, which would also be a nice feature.

Our motorola CAD software has the noises and % hits for tags, names, DL#s etc. Any LEO with a department e-mail address can get a CJNET certificate and get DAVID as long as they have a computer with internet access.

What's also nice is that when someone gets arrested in Florida for not having a valid license, the state gives them a number. Some of their information will be on DAVID, just minus a picture and (I think) SSN.
