Looks like a Lexus ES. Hope it has room in it...we're gonna need it!

Being a good street cop is like coming to work in a wet suit and peeing in your pants. It's a nice warm feeling, but you're the only one who knows anything has happened.

Looks like a re-badged Pontiac G8, which is basically the Aussie Holden on the above Wiki link. I had the opportunity to drive a G8-GT (370ish HP 6.0 V8) rental from National recently, and the thing hauled some serious tail...

It is. I have an uncle that is a product trainer for GM and he told me a few months ago that they were going to have a G8 police version, but I guess they have rebadged it with a more familiar police vehicle name.

I'll check with him and see if he has any further information on whether its really happening and any specs.

The steering wheel is on the wrong side!!!

Looks like the Charger or Chrysler 300.

Just curious- is there any such thing as "copy infringement" in the auto business?

    Steve354,

    What exactly is Holden?

Also, only postal vehicles should have steerings wheels on the worng (right) side, or else it looks goofy .

I can't even imagine shifting gears with my left hand.

Come to think of it, are the pedals inversed also? Or are those still left in the correct position .

Holden is the Australian subsidiary of General Motors -- sort of like Opel & Vauxhaull in Europe.

A recent car that was from Holden was the Monaro - which was the platform for the '04 to '07 Pontiac GTO. They also have another newer body style known as the Commodore, which (I think) is the basis for the new Pontiac G8 sedan.

I read a lot of car magazines and may have my info slightly off base, but know that Holden puts together some wild-looking stuff that flat-out hauls arse.

But at least they're smart enough to have the steering wheel on the proper side of the car!

P.S. I would not want to shift left-handed either. I wonder if the Aussies and the Brits have the throttle under their left foot and the clutch on the right? Wow!

The comments above reflect my personal opinion as a private citizen, ordinary motorist and all-around good guy.

About two months ago I saw a white unmarked G8 GT come through an intersection with blue lights on just south of down town Raleigh. No idea what agency he was with, I'm guessing federal? And VA Dutch, as far as RHD cars go, the pedals are the same side as they are here.

I currently work for a PD that i do mostly parking enforcement and we drive 4x4 jeep wranglers with the steering wheel on the right side. The pedals are normal. All in all it is not too bad to drive it just takes some getting used to.

Holden is not the only one doing I have told that few other car compaines are doing it to.
What you are talking about is "variable displacement" and isn't necessarily new. GM has been using it since around 2005 and chrysler started using it within the last couple years here in the states on some of their v8's.

That impala appears to be the same as the g8. If it indeed is based off of the g8 it will probably be made in Australia and imported here. Might as well start using toyota camry's for patrol, some may be actually be made here...

How about this for a new pursuit car?

This is the Camaro "Black" concept that was displayed at the show in Detroit last week.
