They are not sworn law enforcement, they are armed security guards only. Also, the pay is not worth the riffraff you will be dealing with. I think they start around $12-14 per hour. The company that handles trolley security is called Heritage Security. Here is the site if you are still interested: http://www.heritagesecurity.com/
EDIT: The site avalon42 posted is the same company (meaning Heritage Security is the parent company).
Don't waste your time. Bad morale and not worth what they're paying. The MTS Code Compliance officers aren't armed which are the one's who cite violators and book suspects into County Jail.
MTS has several different positions that work the Trolleys and the trains. They do have armed security officers...not sure their exact title, but are non sworn uniformed armed security. I would agree that most (not all) I come in contact with are either not of the highest caliber or are not too happy with what they are doing.

Maybe its different in other areas, but in my city they dont arrest or book anybody...they detain and call for us to go pick them up. I was always a little frustrated with that...having to clean someone elses fish cause you never know how it was caught.

They (code compliance who usually rolls with security and wear almost identical uniforms) can in San Diego. They can book on local warrants and take people to detox. A few have PD radios and handle minor calls. no new cases. I have a lot of contact with them. They even have their own UC narc team. They called me after they caught someone, and while they were nice guys, they didn't have a clue as to how to do police work. Don't do it.
Had a guy in my academy that came from them. Couldn't cut phase training and got fired.
Maybe I should have worded my post a little differently. The code compliance officers may be doing that in my city (San Diego County), but when I was humping a beat we were repeatedly getting calls from the uniformed security guys for DV's,drugs,warrants,etc......... if their code compliance officers can arrest and book I'm not sure why they didnt call them instead of us, but not much to do when your dispatched to that call.
Ditto on the real transit police....would help out a lot.

Actually pay is lower, unless your in North County Transit.

Exact title is security, not sworn is correct, and some are armed. I would agree that most are not of the highest caliber, but then again its just security and not actual peace officers with extensive training.
Maybe people compare transit to the police because they look alike, but in reality its apples and oranges. B.S.I.S Training vs P.O.S.T Training big difference.
To many its just another security job, to others its a way to get experience and move on. To most its just a job (not all). Code Compliance its a bit more different than the security gig.

Yeap, unfortunately that's how PD feels. MTS has an M.O.U with SDPD for the warrant bookings. That's why anywhere out of San Diego they call local PD which like you said they're usually not to happy to respond. (we can tell)

More of a UC crime suppression unit.
"and while they were nice guys, they didn't have a clue as to how to do police work. Don't do it."
Maybe the lack of 5 month police academy has something to do with that.

I wonder who that was. Most recent guy was pretty squared away.
I wish we had real transit police.
Yeah so do I, we, and everyone else, will it ever happen probably not.

Yeap it would.
Only way to get transit police would be sheriffs. Since Trolley is in every jurisdiction.
