    Bucks County Sheriff's Office

Just a heads up but the Bucks County Sheriff's Office is looking to hire 7 deputies. Check out the Bucks Co. website.

I know it doesn't state it, but don't they want some 120 certified?

Well the ad states you must pass the Deputy Sheriff's Basic Training:

Within one (1) year of hire, employees hired in this job class must successfully complete the Deputy Sheriffs’ Basic Training Program (certification) through Pennsylvania State University.
IMO, you wouldn't need that if 120 certified.

I'm thinking it is more of an unwritten rule. Getting hired at a PA sheriff's office is not like getting hired by a police department. You take a civil test, but it really comes down to the sheriff wanting you or not.

That's better pay than most police departments too. No patrol, M-F, 9-5. Not too bad.

The only place to apply is at the HR department, no applications available online, no forms by mail

Just a heads up but if you go to the HR, you need to have the following prior to them giving you an application:

Work history for the last 10 years with full address including zip codes

5 references. Professional and personal. No family.

I had a family member go and try to get an app for me.. and apparently you have to appear in person to fill out the dumb thing.. So not only do I not live close by to go and fill out the thing.. I can't think of too many people that have the time M-F 9-5 to sit and fill out applications when they should be at work... Silly me...

I as well applied for this position and have not heard anything. Does anybody know if they give an exam or some type of test/civil service test. By the looks of the ad they had on the website i believe they just interview but i am not shure. The HR lady told me the position has preference to individuals who apply that are in the same union code.

I highly doubted it and thought I'd check anyway. I was going to be in the area tomorrow and was going to apply but doubt they are still accepting apps. Good luck to those of you who applied.

I guess these seven jobs were spoken before they were posted.

I applied a few years ago and went through the process. From the time I submitted the initial application to the first step took a long long time, just the way they do things I guess. During the interview they pretty much told me in other words that I was stupid for wanting to go there because of the loss of pay among other things. Needless to say I wasn't hired.

    It is just under $49k.

I really think that if you don’t have Act 120 or already work for the country you really don’t have a chance. I know it is not written, just giving you MHO.

I am not sure it is a good place to start for someone who wants to be a cop. PA doesn’t really consider deputy sheriffs LEOs, not like most state do.

It sounds like a good gig to have if you are retiring from being a LEO, or if you want to work part-time as a LEO and do the sheriff gig full-time (not sure if Bucks lets you work as a part-time officer anymore).

Thanks Spartan. I am about to graduate from the academy with my act 120, and I was thinking it might be a good place to start.
