Kind of weird.... Not very good transitions from one scene to the next very choppy in my opinion. And whats up with portraying *** hole cops? Like unusual and this show its kinda like eh....

Actually liked it. The camera work was in real time. None of that bullcrap slow motion when a gun is fired. Seemed they tried to make it similar to a reality show. 4/5

I liked the show. Your right about scene transititions, it was kind of hard to follow from scene to scene. However, The acting was good.

I liked the show!
Whoever is their technical advisor is obviously a LAPD cop....the show is dead on. From the shootings and the homicide cases to the sayings and terminology that's specific to LA Cops

nothing will beat the shield. it was an awesome show, had a pretty deep intertwining storyline, and i enjoyed how raw and gritty the filming was. i am eagerly waiting for the final act to be released on dvd. does anybody know when it's set to happen?

+1.....didnt FEEL very realistic either.....the camera was bouncy, and like you said, choppy.
Anyhow, Im more of a non-fiction type cop show person myself, but I told my friends Id give it a try. We'll see....maybe next week will be better.

The show wasnt TERRIBLE..... it was just weird... So from what i understand the terminology and the way they mark out on calls is correct?
I know by using the 800mhz system that when you mark on a radio it identifies which car or radio it was that marked.
Just weird to here someone say "Mark us out" without giving a number or cruiser #.
Interesting stuff.

I liked it, kept me interested. I was laughing in my head in the beginning though when they were handling the officer without gloves even though there was blood all over him.
BTW, you can get the episodes for free legally when they come out on Hulu, which is ran by NBC.

Edit: Is it just me or in the last scene, doesn't the FTO look like Malloy from Adam-12?

An actual officer can correct me, but LAPD doesn't use 800mhz, they do have digital radios though, so maybe it's tied to that, but whenever I listen to LAPD, I always hear them use their unit number/callsign when they acknowledge a call.
As a civilian, I love the show and I hope it will help the average person develop some empathy for police officers and all that they have to go through.

You are so wrong. There is so much crap on there that is so far off the beat from what we do it inst funny. I'll start with the most simple detail, the training officer is a PIII +I , 3 plus ones are not TO's. They are either senior lead officers or part of a metro element.
Simple thing #2, the lapel mic. LAPD uniform policy states our lapels shall be sewn down. You can't clip the mic there.
I could spend a few thousand hours picking apart the first episode but won't waste the time.
As far as the not IDing yourself on the radio, um nope. And we don't say mark us out on that. Code 6 on incident... is the proper terminology and if you don't advise who you are you will hear an RTO with a bit of a tude say back "Unit buying inc#.... identify only."
If I knew nothing about the LAPD or police work in general I would think the show was ok. But since I do know how bad they are butchering what we do, not for me.
About the only thing they got right was the joke about two females working a car.... It's an old out dated saying but I've heard it used a time or two.

But it's NO FUN having only ONE thread! I should really start looking at peoples profiles, I thought he WAS LEO by the way he said it and it sounded as fact.

Haha yes! I have noticed that. I was just going through the lounge and seeing members with over 1,000 posts, and then in their profile it says Non-LEO, or still applying.
Honestly, only reason I am here is because EMS and LEO work side by a lot of times here, and I plan on eventually becoming LEO after 7 or 8 years with CHP.

I actually really liked the show. But then again, I'm a couple thousand miles away from LA, so the specific inaccuracies were lost on me. However, I did laugh when they radioed dispatch saying "show me out at my location."

The show was ok, the whole "tough guy cop in a gay bar" was totally borrowed from The Wire. I try not to get caught up in all the little inaccuracies with these shows.

I thought it was horrible. I won't be giving it a second chance. The show was just one giant cliche. The rookie cop is a self righteous arrogant jerk who probably wouldn't make probation in the real world.
Just my opinion of course but I thought it really stunk.

I dont normally watch cop shows but the previews looked decent so I thought I would give it a try. I thought it was ok. I was curious though I saw the rookie wearin some kind of a gold meadal next to his badge that no one else was wearing. I was wondering what it was for unless it was some kind of marksmanship badge because he obviously can shoot well. If anyone knows the answer let me know.

No waaaaay!!!! The bar scene in "The Wire" involved a total scumbag, administration pogue, who'd sell out his own parents if it gave him a moment's opportunity to advance to chief. Tough to even classify him as a "cop"!
