Cincinnati PD Test?

Does anyone have any information about the next Cincinnnati Police Civil Service test?

I've checked their website and haven't found anything.

I've also talked to a few friends who are officers and I've gotten 4 different answers.... March '07, June-July '07, August-Sept '07, and March '08.

Just wondering if anyone has heard anything?

I just checked CPD's website and found the following:

The next civil service Cincinnati Police Recruit tests are now scheduled for Saturday, April 14, 2007, and Saturday, April 28, 2007, at the Duke Energy Center in downtown Cincinnati with the application period beginning on February 26, 2007, and ending on April 20, 2007.

Other useful information is on there as well. Here's the link Cincinnati Police

CincyCop and Jumper, if you don't mind me asking, how long have you been with CPD? In your opinion, are they a good department to work for?

I just did a ride along a week ago down in OTR and had a great time (my first one)! It was a little slow, but the cold weather probably had something to do with that and the fact that operation Vortex has really cleaned things up down there from what I hear. The officer I rode with suggested I try district 3 or 4 as he said they tend to be a little busier and I will probably see more.

Morning_Runner, I was with CPD for only two years, 2004-2006 on patrol in District 2. I enjoyed working for the department and had to make a tough decision when my previous employer (prior to CPD) came knocking. Cincinnati Police is a great place to work. The comradery with fellow Officers is outstanding. Because CPD is a large department there are many opportunities within the organization. I wish you well with the testing/application process.

Addition: I forgot to mention that there will be many Officers retiring in the next few years so there will be more supervisory positions available.

I just came out of the last class. I really enjoy it and the people I work with are very good. Like CincyCop says, there are many opportunities with CPD. As with every job, however, it is what you make of it. While one may absolutely love it, another may wish they had chosen another career.

Be advised, that the process is long. The academy is pretty tough, and it seems like it will take forever to get through it all. But if you're dedicated, have patience, and do not have possess any of the following traits: big head, bad attitude, know everything, loner, you will be fine.

Best of luck. CPD is an excellent place to work.

x3.

I need some FTO pay here kids!!!!!! Just kidding - I would do it for no extra money - it is the most rewarding thing I have done on this department so far!
Anyway, Blackhole ... aka, Nick Carter, should do very well and is the person I would want as a recruit out of the academy!!!!

CincyCop - how is business so far? You aren't going to take a hit w/ the looming labor issues are ya?

My friend took the written test in April 2006 and the physical agility in July 2006. He was wondering when he might expect a response from them? Any ideas?

Hey guys,

I talked to a CPD recruiter a few days ago and was told that if you take the upcoming written test in April, don't expect to even start the academy until December of 2008!

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up.

Hmmmm.... It says December 07 on the website.

I took a tour of the academy with the Associate Commander just two weeks ago.....he didn't mention a 20 month wait between testing and the beginning of the academy either, and I DID ask him about that.

Nick Carter???? He's a lil young guy......besides, I left that life when I got hitched. (I got memories though!!! )

I signed up to take the test as well in April. Does anyone have more information on if it will be a 20 month wait period?? Im from out of state and dont mind taking the time off for the test but would rather take a local test if one happens to be on the same date. Thanks.

Like I said earlier, the officer I spoke to said everyone taking the April 07 written test probably wouldn't be starting the academy until Dec. of 2008 because quote "the hiring process is very long". Try giving the recruitment office a call and see what they say, maybe the officer I talked to had no clue what they are doing.....

So far so good business wise. We dodged the U.S. Airways takeover but we are still in chapter 11...hopefully emerging from chapter 11 in the next few months.

You know, I took CPD test 4 yrs ago and I scored 89% but I didn't make it to the next phase. I asked a LT about that and he said because the score is broken down into Race and Sex. So, since I am a WHITE MALE I didn't proceed, but a guy who I knew that worked in my building then was Black, got a 72% and he got called for the next phase. Is this fair? NO. That made me never try for CPD again and am I glad I didn't because of the way the Officers are treated by the Dept and the "Civilian review board". There's an idea, let Civilans who don't have a clue about Police work decide your fate.

While race does play a part in the hiring selection, the fact you weren't selected is not because you are white.

I am a white male and I made it.

It is still unfair that RACE is a factor, would you rather have someone who can pass a written exam with a high score and prove in the academy he has what it takes or someone who barely got through? The guy I knew that barely passed in my opnion is an idiot and is not smart at all. So, if your life was down to a split second decision who would you rather have? Soneone who got hired to meet a quota? Race shouldnt be a deciding factor for any job let alone a Police Officer.

Also, the Lt flat out told me that if you are a black female and you don't have a criminal history, as long as you have a HS Diploma or GED then they will hire you pretty much for sure. Now how is that fair? He also said, they hired a lot of black females that went through the academy, got out then a bunch quit because they could not adapt to the schedule and it was the 1st job they had held as well as hardly any had an Ohio OL due to the fact they used the Metro buses to get around, so how is it fair to hire based on RACE?

You obviously have a major chip on your shoulder that someone you consider beneath you was hired while you were not. It is enitrely possible that someone with less formal education than you might have other desirable traits that will make them a very good police officer.

I also find it curious in that you said you got an 89% but didn't make it to the next round and yet you claim a black person was selected over you. I'm note sure I understand what you mean. In acutality, nobody is "selected" unless they successfully complete all phases of the hiring process (written, physical, background checks, oral interviews, psych, et al) yet you stated that you were not selected based on your 89%. Can I assume that you successfully completed the entire selection process?

One can also infer from your arguments that you believe the department should hire based soley on score even if that means all members of the department would be of one race...in your case white. You do realize that would not work on a practical level don't you?

Your profile says you're a sworn officer (I'm assuming KY from your avatar) so what is the worry? You made it into an LE department.
