Owens Police Academy

Anybody a graduate? Or going through right now? What has your experience been with this particular academy? Are there really any other ones in the general vicinity?

I am attending this academy this coming August. i will be out of the military for 7 days and head right into this so it's not a big deal for me. I have a friend who recently graduated from it and he said alot of people are going through it because they do not want to continue college and are just trying to get jobs. Overall Owens is a great place, my wife did her 1st year of college there before transfering to toledo, the faculities are pretty good. You can expect Para-military type training while there i'm told. IE. stand at attention when insturctors enter/exit the room. If you plan on attending you best get a move on because apps are due 19 June. If you are sponsored through the academy by a department you are expected to perform better and exceed the standards. My friend enjoyed it, although he never expressed an interest in LE before this, he just kinda did it. i noticed your in michigan. this is an OPOTA certificaion, not MOLECES. i would make sure that it will transfer over before you spend the time. any questions pm me.

I graduated from the owens academy in 2003. High quality instructors ( retired FBI, OSP, assistant U.S. attorneys and so on). I was VERY lucky and got hired full time in a great city 4 months after graduation. The area is very tough to find full time work. If you dont have an associates degree, you can forget a full time job in NW Ohio ( except TPD). Overall, good self sponsor academy, I recommend it. Any other questions PM me
