Columbus PD

Anyone have any advise about the Columbus PD. How difficult is it to get in? What is morale like? Do you need to be Superman to get hired?

Also, any departments in the area that it might be better for a newbie to try for. Thanks

The CPD hire on a regular basis and in large numbers. Because their pay is lower than many of the suburban police depts they usually a looking for younger officers. They also run their own academy and you will have to attend it even if you are already certified. As for getting in, they are not the easiest nor the hardest to get into.

I took the test this past december. It was pretty easy even though I was the only one in my group to even pass the physical fitness. Im in the 80% and im supposed to get a call for an interview eventually, but I just took a job with Ohio dept. of corrections so Ill have to see how it goes. But if you test, the video response test is hilarious.

Only one to pass the test? The test must be really hard, or they are not attracting people who have really dedicated themselves. Congrats on moving along in the process and best of luck.

Thanks, but there were a lot of people with the " tude" that if they would show up they would make it. A lot of these people had no business being there, in my group there was 7 of us, 1 couldnt do the running and 5 of them couldnt do the situps. IF you practice for like even 2 weeks ahead of time you will be fine.

300 meter run in 70 seconds or less: Basically a fast jog

20 pushups

31 situps in 60 seconds

If you train for it, it is not difficult.

How much better prepared should you be to get through the academy? I can meet the minimums and then some. Based on your experience with the Columbus academy, how intense are they with PT? At what level should you be to have a fighting chance? Thanks

Columbus PD has something like 6 or 8 helicopters. I don't think they really need that many helicopters so they should give 1 or 2 helicopters to Cincinnati PD as a sign of goodwill.

I am pretty sure that Columbus Police Academy will train to meet the OPOTA physical fitness 50th percentile standard.

Here is the link of the standard...

CPD has 4 ghetto birds at most. They have 1 in the air usually 20hrs a day, more than LA and NYC. Its funny when we burb cops get to use the bird and most large cities dont even have one but for a few hrs a day at most. My departments entire budget wouldnt cover running or maning one of them for a week. I work the west and NW corner burbs of columbus.
