Still waiting for the LAPD?
It's the 27 of Dec and i havent heard anything yet from the LAPD? all i know is that my whole package is in final review and im awaiting my appointment for the Oral Psych, (My last step). i know the next DP is 1/9/06, soon after that is 2/6/06. So no chance for me to get in the 1/06 class? anyone else in the same boat with LAPD? Also, my background expires on Jan 18, 2006? Man the long wait.

My wife is a Civilian who works Training Division, they have literally called people on a friday night to see if they can start the next Monday morning. Last month they took recruits out of her shop, so I don't know much more any longer. They keep saying they are hard up for recruits. The transfer just came out today, let me ask her in the morning if there's a list of who's starting next DP available to her. I'll let you know if there is.

Ive been in a loop with this LAPD process for a long time. I just got a hold of my Case Manager (LAPD) whom is reviewing my whole packet. She told me that its going to take another month for review and i will be receiving something in the mail on what to do next in the process by the end of January? Can anyone please help?

It's LAPD, unless you know some brass or the mayor you aren't going to make them move any faster than they want to. If you want to be LAPD then have some patentience.

LAPD process
Hey guys, make sure you call and verify that everything is finished with your packet. I waited for months before calling, and was told my psych interview hadn't been done. BS! I had to call the psych unit and had them update my package. Who knows how long I would have been in limbo had I not called!
I hear that the targeted time to complete the hiring process is 6-9 months. Hang in there!

I think this is a new step in their hiring process, since they dont do the oral interview anymore, they replaced it with the personal qualifications essay, so this is like an interview just to get the feel of the applicant, or at least thats what im guessing. If you go to the LA personel website it will show this interview as part of the process, right after the poly. I think, from reading previous post of yours, didnt your oral expired?, so you had to do the PQE, so im guessing that is why you have to do this one, i dont beleive its graded. I would treat it just like the oral. You should be fine, good luck!

That's not true, the interview is scored. You can't just pass it, you have to pass it with a good score otherwise you won't move on.

"we" keep telling them-LAPD is a good choice, but not the only choice.and alot of folks still don't understand that LAPD is processing THOUSANDS of applicants daily-this is a mammoth task, and not like the small 50- 150 man PDs in the area who only have maybe 200-500 applicants per yr applying !!!! recently a class graduated with only 39 recruits( when I went thru ,you were a small class if you only had 60-70 recruits!!!) for all of you applying for LAPD-wait politely. If you can't wait try this-
1) L.A. Port PD ( Class code 3221) pay is $53K to 71K/yr .city of L.A. Port Dept, needs officers !!! you can transfer your scores and even background pkg to Port PD;They will send you to the LASD academy(26 wks) and dive training .they currently have (75) officers and are expanding to 150-call 310-732-3480
2) L.A. Airport PD (Class code#3225),Pay is $54K to 74K/yr to start;continual hiring-current deployment is 350+ and they are expanding to 500+;lots of specialized units to join and fast track for promos and special duty assignments-test scores and and pkg also transferrable. Attendance is now back at LAPD academy (1,036 hrs)= 28+wks call (310) 646-0500
3) L.A. gen Services PD (class code #3183) ,Pay is $53K to 72K/yr starting. Smallest of the cities "specialized" PDs,but growing from (50) officers to 100-has the second largest patrol jursidiction-behind LAPD- of 380+ sq mile within the city of L.A.Also attends LAPD academy (213)485-5605
*** The reason is not to deter you from joining LAPD but give you options if you can seem to take the wait for LAPD alone;each Dept allows you to complete an inter city transfer(referred to as a "108") to LAPD if you really want under "police specialist",plus you can accrue vacation and sick time, plus retirement which you can transfer over.you will gain experience plus still learn much of the LAPD standards and procedures, while also serving the citizens and visitors to the city of L.A.If you do try this option, don't think you are going to get in any easier-LAPD still sets the standards for hiring in the city of L.A. and you'll still have to meet LAPD "specs" to be hired by the others also......

DOA, dont those other departments use the same personnel office? If so, it probably doesn't go much faster.

"yes"- same city employees-the only difference is an applicant might make an academy date faster. but alot of the times EVERYBODY is held up from getting slots until a certain # can be placed into an LAPD academy class ( for LAPD) And congrats to you- you are chugging along in the appropriate time frame( 8 to 10 month process)

Have you gotten a date yet? How long was it from your medical to the interview?
