Question LE pipe-dream?

Ok..I'm pretty new to the forum, so I'd better introduce myself. I'm a college sophomore at OSU. Up until this summer, I was on scholarship with the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps. I've always known that I want to serve the public in some capacity, and I came to the realization that there are a lot of problems here on the homefront that I can help with, so I dropped my scholarship. To earn a bit of cash, I joined the Community Crime Patrol here in Columbus. Long story short, after walking patrol down in Franklinton and the Hilltop and interacting with the night CPD officers, I'm sold on LE.

So...here's my plan: I'm taking spring quarter off of school and doing OPOTA at Eastland Career center, and that'll end in August. I won't turn 21 till February of 2007, so that gives me about 1.5 years to find a commision w/o redoing OPOTA entirely. Now, I'm not dreaming too big about what kind of a job I'll get after I turn 21. I know probably not going to get hired full time anywhere close that soon. What I am shooting for is a position that will get me a commision and give me some experience while I finish my degree (which should be about done by that point) and look for openings in departments.

As such, I'm gonna apply for Special Deputy positions at all the SOs around Franklin County and see if I can get something there. I've also heard that some private organzations such as Ohio Health and Huntington Bank will also honor your commission (can anyone verify this??)

So...is this reasonable?...or should I go back to the drawing board?

Thanks!

Why don't you check out OSU PD? Benefits are good and you can sign up to work OSU events (AKA OSU Sporting events). That and OSU employees qualify for some tuition reimbursments.

OSU PD would actually be great for me, I just haven't been able to find much info about it. Their website says "We are currently in the process of redefining our employment opportunities"...whatever that means.

You might just go and ask them when they are hiring next. I actually work at the Wooster Campus so I'm a little out of touch with their hiring process.
I will say though that I got to watch a few OSU Football games from the side lines
