Weights and Measures

I learned the other day that all counties are supposed to have weights and measures enforcement.... It seems as though the department just learned that as well...lol... Because we are just now starting a weight and measures unit.

So is there any truth to that requiring county agencies to have that??

Bodie, I figure if anyone around here would know it would be you...Your at the hub of trooperville

Ummm maybe I didn't make it clear..lol... weights and measures is the traffic enforcement for commercial motor vehicles...lmmo

If they enforce that, our dept is in trouble. We have quite a few overweight officers, some very overweight.

Bodie and I work for the same agency, so perhaps I can shed a bit of light.

We DO have a Weights and Measures unit here in Franklin County. I've never heard of it being a "requirement" for any department to have such a division. Unless it's listed somewhere in the ORC that I'm not aware of. If it is, someone correct me. To the best of my knowledge, the ORC states that the Sheriff is responsible for Jails, Civil Warrants, and County LE (Patrol). I don't remember any specifics about W and M.

Since OSP seems to take care of the majority of W and M here in Ohio, I imagine that it's probably not set in stone for Sheriff's to have it. Hell, we have a few counties that are so slashed under their current budget, they can't even afford to have a Patrol division, much less Weights and Measures.

Yea, apparently we are supposed to have it, I never heard of it before either, and apparently neither did the sheriff....but it hasn't taken effect yet, so maybe its a rumor, but I will let you all know if/when it starts here.

I took that Commerical Motor Vehicle class at the OSP academy and don't recall hearing about that also.
