EMT Basic Required ???

I heard through the rumor mill before...Don't remember how long ago, but I was talking with some other LEOs about me taking the first responder.... In the conversation I was told don't do it because OPOTA was going to require LEOs to be EMT basic qualified... Has anyone else heard about this and the truth to it

They have already made a PT test part of the requirements for passing the basic academy. The EMT thing would not suprise me. I could be wrong, but I think OPOTA is trying to cut down on the number of certified people out there. We all know that there is one job for every ten or so people. If they do make EMT Basic a requirement, I would hope that it would apply to new cops only. I can't see every active cop in the state having to go take the class.

I graduated from Academy in September, and I never heard anything about EMT basic requirements on the horizon. First Aid, CPR, and AED operation still remain a part of the regular course, however. The new PT test standards had many other people in my class shook-up enough already.

One thing for sure......there will be fewer fatbodies getting a badge here in Ohio. OPOTA is no longer a "Gentleman's Course.", which is probably just as well.

Now all they have to do is get rid of the new "Leave cover" minimum handgun qualification. What idiots. I made sure right away our modified course still was approved, thankfully it was. For departments shooting that crap as training, you are training officers to die.
