CCW In Arizona Question
If I'm a retired police officer from out of state and I move to AZ and establish residence and get a CCW permit: Am I restricted as to where I can carry like any other civillian CCW holder, or is there a "retired police" type CCW that allows me to carry without the typical restrictions. Also: if there ARE more restrictions for retired cops than active.....Suppose I maintain residency in another state that is reciprocal with AZ, and get my "unrestricted retired police officer" CCW in THAT state. Will AZ honor that "unrestricted status"? Basically, am I going to be able to go into a bar with my gun, or am I going to have to leave it in the car?

I will check on that for you, but for the meantime look at this
ARS 13-3112E.6
6. Satisfactorily completes a firearms safety training program approved by the department of public safety pursuant to subsection N of this section. This paragraph does not apply to a person who is an active duty Arizona peace officer standards and training board certified or federally credentialed peace officer or who is honorably retired as a federal, state or local peace officer with a minimum of ten years of service.
That leaves some room to wonder. It does not specifically say that you would not qualify if you were retired from say, New York.
"or is honorably retired as a fedreal, state, or local peace officer with a minimum of ten years of service."
But, I go back to work on friday and I know just the guy to ask. I'll get back with you.

Thanks...from what I've read so far, retired out-state cops don't have to take the stupid class in AZ....but they still can't carry in restricted areas. They're as restricted as any regular citizen....so no pistol in the bar....MI is pretty good with retired cops' CCW's. After an initial screw-up in the new "shall issue" law, retired cops with a CCW are now back to having the same access as active cops. That's for retired cops from outside the state who come in, and cops who retire in MI.

Thanks...Yes, you can carry in MI, and as a police officer, I don't even think you're restricted to carrying only where a civilian with a CCW can carry.

CCW Law
Yes you can carry here in MI if you are LE from another stateand you are not restricted at all. That even means the states that won't allow me a certified Police Officer to carry in there states, can carry here. It would be nice to have that kind of freedom all over the country. We should be abelto move from State to State with our weapons if we are on vacation or any other reason. But until they pass the national law then were screwed.
I don't want to have some ***** who wants to make a name for himself try to arrest me in another state just because I want to protect myself and my family. You know who you are and you are the worst kind of cop out there

Check out the site and make sure you write letters (not emails) to your US Senators and Representatives. A letter to the White House won't hurt either.

CCW law
I will be sure and write to them but the problem is I am in Michigan where we have notorious politicians against anything to do with guns. But I will do my part to help this get passed. Thanks for the info

ok i got it.
you may not carry unrestricted. thats the bottom line. but if that legislation passes you will b able to. but i heard that the legislation has been in the works for years... the only leg up you get is that you dont have to take that horrible class. i suggest you call DPS (triple A with guns) or find their site for more info. sorry frank.
