Phoenix cop won't let neighbors save their cat
In one of the most bizarre stories I have ever read, and one that could be handled soo differently, a cat ran up a tree in Phoenix and the tree is on a cops yard.
The cop is paranoid about people trying to rescue the cat and he is destroying his department's reputation cause of it. He does not want anyone on his property for fear of getting hurt. Fair enough. That is where a waiver comes in and also indemnification's. I hereby indemnify Joe Smith, his family, blah blah from any injuries they may sustain from trying to get a cat out of my tree.
When a ladder was placed on public property, he reportedly flipped out and ran out with his badge and gun threatening people.
That was uncalled for. He knows they are not burglars. He is smart enough to figure it out. According to the article is is not smart enough to carry homeowners insurance.
He won't let people put food on his property and is being a regular ***** about the entire incident.
Now the news is on this , it's made the international news and it makes him and his dept look like uncaring ogres. We both know better, but this has escalated to new levels of stupidity. The news even asked the chief for his comment. If I was that chief I'd end this now.
There are times when cat's do not come down on their own and they starve or become dehydrated.
Animal control in this area does not handle cats. They are not an option.
These two ( the cop and the cats owner) MUST draw up some kind of indemnification contract and get this cat out of the tree, before this the BBC and CNN are parking live trucks up and down the street.
I don't know if there was bad blood between them before but this just shows how petty and stupid people can be. If it was my tree I'd say fine but if you get hurt it's on you. I sure would not worry about people putting food in my yard to coax him down.

Do the neighborhood a favor... one well placed .22 hollow point round would do some good. Cats are a spawn of Satan! End of story.

Oh no! not another "Cop embarrassing his profession by not letting a cat out of the tree thread", I had hoped I'd seen the last of these. LOL Ok, I am really embarrassed and feel I wasted my life in this career, I coulda been a contender!

Sounds like he's not being a very friendly neighbor. May come back to haunt him one day but with that being said, it's his tree/property. If he doesn't want anyone trespassing upon it, that's his right. If this stupid cat can't keep himself out of trees, then maybe a collar with an invisible fence is in order.
The .22 hollow point is a bit extreme but it would be effective.

Oh my gosh! A cat stuck in a tree!
It would come down on its own eventually. (But we MUST DO! something!)
I don't blame him. Lawyers have wrecked how people help each other.

I agree. I would go with the .17 HMR, the .22 is going to keep on going for a while after passing through the cat. Then you have to worry about your background yadda yadda yadda.

Even .17HMR has a lot of travel, and could seriously damage something if you miss. 12 ga. with #8 shot should be fine.....
I hate cats, but hate their owners even more. If you own a cat, keep it inside the house. Cats dont listen to anyone, they ignore fences, and are always sleeping / walking on my car in my driveway, yet no one seems to think its a big deal.
Could you imagine if my 80lb dog (who stays in the yard, BTW) was jumping up and clawing the crud out of your new car?

To the OP, find something more important to talk about. It's the officer's property and he has final say so. Also, I bet even if there was a contract releasing liability from the owner if any injuries were to happen, the neighbor would find some way to make some cash. Probably through the department or city since they employ this very very mean police man (insert hand jerk off motion)

Won't a .17HMR keep humming along as well? I vote for a .410 with birdshot. Nobody more than 20yds away will get hurt with that.
btfp - In some states an injury waiver is worth less than the paper it is printed on. So they can sign anything you put in front of them and your homeowners insurance will still be paying out and your tree decalred an attractive nuisance to cats making you liable for every cat in the neighborhood.

I said hollow points! I've heard the .17 is the fastest traveling round. A hollow point from a 22 short would be perfect! It will expand and may not be a through and through.
Cats are worthless creatures. Which is why god made ALF!

Yep, thats right. Hate cats, kill cats. What the heck. Isn't that the attitude that caused, hmmm, I don't know...THE BLACK PLAGUE!
Kill the cats and rats breed like crazy and spread their disease bearing fleas...
Nothing wrong with cats. In fact. I like my cats.
