POLICE RECRUIT

Announcing an examination cycle for placement into the City of Peoria Police Eligibility Pool.

2001 Salary (2002 not yet determined): $33,802 ($34,647 after certified training)

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
AGE: 21 years old by date of written examination, or 20 years old, if successfully completed 2 years of law enforcement studies at an accredited college. Cannot have attained age 36 by date of entrance into Eligibility Pool. (By State statute, exceptions made for individuals with prior municipal police experience. See the Human Resources Department for additional information).

EDUCATION: Minimum: Graduation from High School or GED equivalency accepted.

Prefer candidates with Associate’s Degree or hours toward Bachelor’s Degree.

OTHER: U.S. Citizenship; valid driver’s license; physical condition to perform the essential functions of the position and pass physical agility exam; no felony conviction.

VISION-HEARING: Must meet minimum standards for vision and hearing and cannot be color-blind. Applicants who wear eyeglasses or contact lenses must meet minimum standards of visual acuity. Vision with corrective lenses should not be less than 20/20 in the better eye, 20/40 in the worst eye, and 20/20 with both eyes open. Uncorrected vision should not be less than 20/200 in either eye.

RESIDENCY: Applicants need not be residents of the City to apply. If hired, must establish permanent residency within the City limits by the end of the probationary period.

ORIENTATION: A Voluntary Orientation session will be held at Peoria Public Library, 107 NE Monroe, Auditorium (Basement), Peoria, Illinois on Saturday, April 27, 2002, 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Additional information will be sent.

WRITTEN EXAMINATION: Saturday, May 18, 2002, at 9:00 a.m. (Must report by 8:45 a.m.), Peoria Civic Center, Exhibit Hall “B”, 201 SW Jefferson, Peoria, Illinois.

PHYSICAL EXAMINATION: Saturday, May 18, 2002, 1:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m., and Sunday, May 19, 2002, 8:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m., Peoria Civic Center, Exhibit Hall “C”, 201 SW Jefferson, Peoria, Illinois. Applicants will be scheduled for one of the dates following the written examination.

OTHER TESTS: An oral interview with a panel of the Fire & Police Commissioners will be held with candidates selected from the eligibility pool. Prior to hire, must undergo background investigation, polygraph, medical including a drug screen, and psychological examinations.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: Applications must be received by 5:00 p.m., Friday, April 5, 2002 or postmarked by April 5, 2002. Application must include a copy of the applicant’s certified birth certificate, (copy of registered certificate, not hospital copy with footprints), copy of driver’s license, copy of high school diploma or GED certificate. Applicants who have degrees beyond high school must also submit a copy of that diploma and/or applicable college transcripts. (It is mandatory that documentation of college degree be provided or candidate will be given no credit for that degree in the Eligibility Pool).

Study guides for the written examination will be mailed to candidates with completed applications the week of April 15th.
