Starting wage $27,228 (eff. July 2002) annually, plus an additional $3,100 in state incentive pay after completion of 16 week training period in Richmond, Ky. Annual pay increases, excellent benefit package.

High school diploma/GED required, plus Associate's Degree or its equivalent from an accredited college or university in law enforcement, social sciences, communications, management, or other job-related field, or 3 years law enforcement experience in a full-time capacity, or equivalent combination of job-related college hours and full-time law enforcement experience.

Applicants must be age 21 before being sworn in and meet all other requirements of job description and applicable policy/law.

Selection process will consist of an extensive evaluation/background investigation process.

Written Exam Sat., 8am, Feb. 23, 2002; Physical Agility exams will follow written exam on Feb. 23, 2002 and if necessary, Feb. 24. Oral exams March 11-15, 2002.

DEADLINE TO APPLY: 4:30pm, Feb. 1, 2002.

Requirements for the written and agility exams are stated below. Applicants should begin preparation for such exams immediately. Study guides for the written exam are available at Dept. of Employment Services (DES) upon request or by calling the #s below.

Physical Agility Exam
1. 16" Minimum Vertical Jump
2. 18 Sit ups in one minute
3. 1 X Bench Press of 64% of Applicant's Body Weight
4. 300 Meter Run in 65 Seconds
5. 20 Push ups
6. 1 1/2 Mile Run in 17 minutes:12 seconds

Written Exam
1. Reading Comprehension, 70 passing
2. Mathematics, 70 passing
3. Grammar, 70 passing
4. Incident Report Writing, 70 passing

Join us at the City of Owensboro Employee Recruitment Fair at 6-7pm Jan. 8, 2002 at the Owensboro Police Department Community Room, 222 E. 9th St., Owensboro, Ky. Applications and further information will be available.

Applicants are encouraged to submit evidence of qualifications with their application (e.g., copy of high school diploma and transcript or GED certificate; plus college diploma/transcript, or evidence of 3 years full time law enforcement experience, or evidence of equivalent combination of education/experience). In addition, applicants are required to submit the following by March 22, 2002: Driver's license, Social Security Card, DD214 (if applicable), Birth Certificate. Applicants must meet qualifications by July 1, 2002 to be hired for the current recruitment process. Applicants who will not meet qualifications until after July 1, 2002, but will before March 22, 2003, may not be considered for the current recruitment process, but may be maintained on an eligibility list up to est. March 22, 2003, if staffing requirements can be satisfactorily met without establishing a new list.

All applicants are required to submit evidence of qualifications, or evidence that qualifications will be met as stated above (e.g., letter from school/employer), no later than March 22, 2002. Failure to produce evidence by March 22, 2002 may result in disqualification.

Prospective employees shall be subject to, but not limited to, post-offer, pre-employment drug screen, physical exam, psychological evaluation.

INTERESTED LATERAL TRANSFER APPLICANTS ONLY. We will also accept applications for lateral transfers at any time. To be considered for a lateral transfer, applicant must be POPS certified by the Commonwealth of Kentucky and such certification must be transferable, must be currently working full time as a law enforcement officer, and must have 3 years full time law enforcement experience. Such persons are not required to participate in the competitive testing process, but will be required to undergo a background investigation, interview, and post-offer drug screen.
