Post Orlando Police Department

Job Description:
Performs professional law enforcement work to maintain order to protect the public, maintain law and order in the community, detect and prevent crime, direct and control traffic, and investigate and apprehend suspects involved in criminal activity.

Department Information:
The Orlando Police Department is located in the heart of downtown Orlando and is an accredited police agency with the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation. Currently, the department has 686 sworn officers who serve a diverse population of nearly 186,000 permanent residents covering 103 square miles. The Orlando Police Department is a full-service police agency with units ranging from Marine Patrol, to Mounted Patrol, K-9, Criminal Investigations, S.W.A.T., Drug Enforcement, Ranch and Grove, Bike Patrol, Emergency Response Teams, Crisis Negotiation Teams, and much more.

Job Requirements:
*Must be 21 years of age or older;
*Possess a high school diploma or G.E.D.,
*Be a U.S. citizen;
*Possess a valid driver’s license (1-year minimum);
*Meet Vision Requirements: Must be Correctable to 20/20;
*Be of good moral character, no felony convictions involving moral character, perjury or false statements as outlined in the Florida State Statutes;
*Be able to meet the department’s very restrictive drug standard;
Successfully pass Civil Service Hiring Standards, and;
*Upon starting employment, must reside within a 45 minute driving time or within a 30-mile radius of the Orlando Police Headquarters Building.


Salary and Benefits:
*Pay ranges from $33,150to $53,125(Oct. 2001). Additional monetary compensation for longevity, education, shift work,line-up time and annual shoe allowance.
* Retirement: 60% of salary from last 3 years for those who retire with 20 years of service. 80% of salary from last 3 years for those who retire with 25 years of service. Retirement includes 2% annual cost of living increase.
*Other benefits include personal leave from 19 days per year to 34days, 9 paid holidays, health insurance, life and disability insurance, college reimbursement, and equipment. Employees can also earn an addtional 12 hours of personal leave by successfully completing the department's voluntary physical agility test.

1. In-state Florida certified applicants
2. In-state non-certified applicants
3. Out-of-state certified applicants
4. Out-of-state non-certified applicants
