POLICE OFFICER POSITIONS OPEN

The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners of the City of Belvidere will be conducting competitive examinations for the position of Police Officer for the City of Belvidere. An opening is currently available and a possibility of other openings exist within the next year.

QUALIFICATIONS

* High School Graduate or G.E.D. equivalent.
* Valid Driver's License
* Minimum age of twenty-one (21) years old or if you have completed two (2) years of law enforcement studies at an accredited institution and are twenty (20) years old, you will also be eligible.

Process

Complete the Application for Employment and return it to the Belvidere Fire & Police Commission, 119 S. State Street, Belvidere, Illinois, 61008 post marked no later than December 1, 2001. Application for Employment may be obtained:

1.In person at the Belvidere City Clerk's Office, 119 S. State Street, Belvidere, Illinois, 61008. Monday thru Friday 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (815) 544-2612

2.Send a self addressed stamped envelope to the Belvidere City Clerk requesting a Application for Employment.

3.In person at the Belvidere Police Department 615 N. Main Street, Belvidere, Illinois, 61008 Monday thru Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the City Administration Office. (815) 544-9626 ext: 458.

Applicants must attend a mandatory Orientation session at the Belvidere Junior High School, 919 E. 6th Street, Belvidere, Illinois at 9:00 a.m. on December 8, 2001. Family members are also encouraged to attend the orientation session, which will last approximately one hour.

Complete and pass the written examination, which will immediately follow the orientation session at the above address, date and time. Family members may not attend the written examination session.

A hiring list will be established from the written test scores. Applicants that are offered a position will be required to pass a background investigation, polygraph evaluation, psychological evaluation, medical examination, and oral interview.

Newly hired probationary officers that are not certified police officers must pass the 12-week in-house basic training at the Illinois State Police Training Academy as a condition of their employment with the City of Belvidere. The successful completion of the State of Illinois P.O.W.E.R. Test is a condition of passing the 12-week training session at the Illinois State Police Training Academy. All applicants should make themselves familiar with the P.O.W.E.R. Test and be able to successfully complete the required performance criteria. A copy of the P.O.W.E.R. Test can be obtained at the Belvidere Police Department City Administration Office.

Starting salary is $32,305 with yearly increases and a yearly uniform allowance of $729.00. Eleven paid holidays, 40 to 160 hours paid vacation per year based on seniority and 160 hours paid sick time per occurrence. A Health and dental plan. Paid employee inoculation for Hepatitis B, Tetanus, TB, and Flu. Yearly physical and blood analysis provided to employee. A Tuition reimbursement program of 50% up to $1200 per year. Twelve hour work day at 14 days per month. Pension set at 50% of salary at 20 years of service and 50 years of age. Pension increases at 2% per year after 20 years to a maximum of 75% of salary. Paid retiree health insurance.
