Public Hangings
With regard to capital punishment; if you had to vote on a form of PUBLIC EXECUTION, which would you go for?

As long as they are put to death and it doesn't violate our constitution.

There's no "all of the above" selection???
I think they need to be torn into itsy-bitsy little pieces and buried alive

I thought this one up for Susan Smith
For those that don't remember, she was the "mother" who drover her car into a lake with her two children strapped into their car seats.
I would like to put her in an 8 foot tall tube standing on end with her chained to the bottom. Then I would slowly drip (and I mean drip - nice and slow) water into the tube. When it finally got high enough, she could last a little longer by drinking some water - but eventually, she would drown.
That is the kind of justice I would like to see for some of these murderers."We're not in this business for the money. We're not in it for the excitement, and moments like this. Duty, honor, country, service, truth, and justice are good. But you can do that from behind a desk. In the end, you carry a gun and shield out into the field for the sole purpose of confronting the bad guys. The enemy. There is no other reason to be on the front lines." ~Nelson Demille

I don't care what method you use, but I don't believe any method should be public. The offenders family and the victims family should be present but no general public. Making death a public spectacle is in rather poor taste, in my opinion.

Depends on the crime...
Cop killers get the firing squad
Baby killers get burned at the stake
Terrorists get hung
etc....

Poor taste? I'll take that accusation over a system that does nothing more than keep them away from society otherwise. The whole rehabilitation iea is long gone.
I'll split the difference for you though. How about pay-per-view for those of us in another state. You don't have to go watch a public execution, but I wouldn't mind."We're not in this business for the money. We're not in it for the excitement, and moments like this. Hey, now there's an idea! The proceeds could go to the victim's survivors!

I like the idea of "eye for an eye" Victim's family chooses method and if they decline or there is no family a jury would decide the fate. It will never happen but fun to think about

I like Japan's method. They never tell you when it's going to happen. One night, they pull you from the cell, walk you down the hall, and hang you. No one knows when it will happen...no media, no protestors, no final family visits. Kind of like your victim got it...unexpected.
An ex-partner, an Armenian raised in Baghdad, told me when he was a kid, Iraqi TV didn't come on until 1530 hours. Cartoons started at 1600, so you ran home to get your schoolwork done. The news came on at 1530 and the last segment of the news was always taped coverage of the day's executions. So all the school kids, right before the Flintstones, watched the hangings. Armen said he knew better than to break the law in Iraq.Last edited by Kieth M.; 09-16-2007 at 12:39 AM.

how did that line go in starship troopers?
"a murderer was convicted today.... execution tonight at 10... all nets, all channels".
thats what i'm game for... but thanks to that one little line in our consitution dealing with cruel and unusual punishment....

I have an idea on a method which would be very difficult for a liberal judge to rule on as "cruel and unusual punishment" . . Put the inmate (we won't call him "the condemned") into a private air conditioned cell with a toilet, shower, comfortable sofa, big screen TV, subscription to the NY Times, and a large caliber handgun with one round loaded and chambered.
24/7/365, stream every televised comment ever made by every Democrat who is currently a member of the U.S. Congress on a continuous loop.
No human being would be able to endure it and no liberal judge would be able to rule against it.

P.S. The "inmate" also won't be working on expensive, lengthy appeals.

I've heard of several possible methods that I liked...
The first is the obstacle course. A murderer is placed at one end of an obstacle course, with the goal of reaching the other end. If he/she can reach the other end alive, they get to go free. Between the murderer and the finish line is the family of the victim, armed with fully automatic weapons. Not only would it be gratifying for the victim's family, it would make a great game show!
Another is to kill the murderer in whatever way they killed their victim. The government would have to keep a small number of psychotic, remorseless "executioners" around, but that would be a small price to pay.
Or we could go more historical. The murderer is tied into a burlap sack with a live chicken and live dog. The sack, with murderer, chicken, and dog inside, are thrown into a river. The murderer is torn apart, while drowning, by the animals in their frenzy to escape. The only down side would be that I like dogs. Maybe a large cat instead..."He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster. And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you."

Although I voted for "Private..." to place answer to the question I would say public firing squad. It is quick without all the mess.
Bing- I do not see why two animals should suffer a tragic death because of one scumbag. Why not a scumbag, plus a sack, plus two rocks and then toss him into the lake?
Ever feel like you live in the state of confusion?

It doesn't really matter how they die, but executions should be televised to deter some. Personally, I like them all. And I would watch them with my kids and say "This is what happens when you don't listen to mommy and daddy". Wow, what an effect...

I myself like the idea of a public firing squad. Its simple, cheap, and allows a level of anonymity for the executioners. Give the family the option of having a place in the squad. Ten person squad, 3 bullets, 10 yards. Family will be allowed 4 places in the squad, with a guarantee that at least 1 will have a live round. Fathers will always be given first rights to the round. Medical personel present to verify death, and administer a lethal dose if required.
This will occur 2 hours after the death penalty sentencing has been delivered. One meal, one family member, one hour for religious or personal reflection.
A La China, executed's family will be charged for the procedure.Last edited by miami-k9; 09-16-2007 at 07:03 PM. Reason: additional info

Hanging works well, isnt really messy (unless they miscalculate the drop) and is relatively Quick and painless (again, if done correctly). Besides Rope is Reuseable..and Natural Fiber...Good for the enviroment and all...Lets get back to "Green" Capital Punishment!!!!

I would not want to grant them the attention, nor the notoriety of a public spectacle.
In my mind Execution is an administrative task that should be carried out with the emotion of deleting junk mail.
If you have committed a crime, been found guilty, and sentenced you should cease to be an issue within several hours. No cameras, no protests, just efficiency.
We may need to keep the aforementioned psychopaths around for this plan, or sublet the operation to the IRS or the Post Office. (They need a new emphasis now that E-Mail is so prevalent)
With the right management, the USPS Department of Executions could work out well;
“Neither rain nor snow nor wind nor hail, the Justice must go through…”
There could be a “Pony Express” Execution Division for states with a track record of efficient executions (Ahem, Texas).
We could possibly find a way to drop the price of stamps back to a more reasonable level along the way…

i think all executions should be public, let the young people know that it is entirely possible for a person to screw up bad enough to warrant removal from the gene pool, by a large dose of chlorine.
thats the way it used to be done, and it worked for many years.
***only for murder, aggravated rape, child molestation etc...we cant be hanging people with too many tickets...how would they ever get them paid? The proper drinking of Scotch whisky is more than indulgence: it is a toast to civilization, a tribute to the continuity of culture, a manifesto of man’s determination to use the resources of nature to refresh mind and body and enjoy to the full the senses with which he has been endowed
