    Fundraising

    Hi everyone,

I am looking for some help. Every spring we do some fundraisers for the K9 group here. Everything from loose change at Petco and some schools to a large event at a local pet store (raffles, demos, etc). Earlier this week, one of the schools contacted me that they wanted to fundraise, but were already doing a loose change campaign for another non-profit. The kids in the school would range from 4-7 yrs old. Any thoughts to what this age group could do to raise money? Any help would be fantastic!

Why not get them to promote a Read-a-Thon for the kids. Like a walk-a-thon, have the kids get sponsors to donate a certain amount on how many books they read within a certain time? It'll promote education, is safe, the parents will buy into it & look at the PD as actually promoting kids and education. With kids that age the books are simple, so they could read an adaquete amount in a short time & since they'd be helping to fund "POLICE DOGS !"., they be motivated

This may be similar to the loose change fundraiser but in my schools we always had classes compete for a prize with change. For instance in high school Freshman, Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors would all be against each other. During lunch people could donate money. Each class donated to their own containers with either Quarters, Dimes, or Dollar Bills. Other classes could put Nickels or Pennies into other classes bins which would "Lower Their Total Money Donated", like freshman putting pennies into Seniors bins. Then the winning class got something.

    Thank you for the suggestions

Here is what I sent the principal. If I miss understood, let me know.

Pop can drive (this could get messy), Since IA give $.05 for every can and they cannot be crushed.
Book a thon (kids get sponsors. IE I would sponsor a child $5 for every book he read).
Change buckets, silver coins and paper in the classroom bucket, pennies would be put in to lower totals for the classroom (a child would take $1 for his classroom and loose pennies would go into another classroom's bucket-this may get confusing for the kids, especially since at this point we work at them working as a team vs each other).
Raffle tickets. For every amt ($.10/$.25/$.50/$1 not sure which would work the best) kids would get raffle tickets. I might be able to get a business in the area to do a pizza party for the classroom with the most tickets (probably Sweet Basil Pizza Pie since I have worked with them in the past and have had great success, or get some prizes together-books, learning toys, K9 stuff).

Any other ideas are more the welcome. Thank you again for the great ideas.

In our area, some restaurants will give a percentage of purchases toward charitable groups. I have seen it done with McDonalds, Big Boy (Elias Brothers), Cici's (pizza place), and Cold Stone Creamery (Ice-Cream).
