I'd say deal with the carelessness of the person leaving her purse unattended & not "blanket" punish the responsible law abiding people trying to protect themselves and family.
Years ago some of our schools had shooting clubs among the many other clubs offered for students. In light of school violence that club has long past.
Then we saw new rules\laws where students cannot carry a gun to school. Never mind that laws already existed covering illegal "carry" without a permit and laws against shooting or killing someone anyway.

Will someone with intent to harm stop and say "Oh, I was going to go to school and kill my teacher (and/or) students but since it's a law I can't carry a gun there, I guess that just spoils my plans."

God forbid this happen but I certainly wouldn't want to know my child or other children got shot or killed when someone could have helped prevent it but had to leave their legally permitted handgun behind because of this...

This is one of the few restrictions I can live with. Parents today (in general) do not teach their children to be responsible with guns and things are happening in schools now we could never imagine as kids. You are probably like me. I grew up with rifles in gunracks in the back windows of pick up trucks and taking your gun to school so you could go hunting afterward. Some things do change.

Desert Rat, Did you read the link? I can see rules\laws for students not carrying to school but this new law keeps teachers and any & all other people even with legal CCW permits from CCW at the schools.
I just don't like having to leave my gun behind if I have to enter the building to get my kid out early or something...
