hey everyone, this is my first post on this site. i have been lurking around for awhile and there is a great deal of information on here. I am new to the law enforcement community. i started the academy back in june and will graduate in december. i recently took a written test for a police department in my area that i would like to work for. i passed the written test and a few days later passed the PT test. I have an interview this Thursday and was wanting to know what to expect. our instructor has been trying to prepare us for interviews but i feel i could learn a bit more before going in for my first one. any help would be appreciated. thanks a lot.

Just a couple of general but important tips...

1) When asked a situational question, be able to articulate your answer. The question will always allow for another decision to be made. Stick to your answer, explain why you would do it that way.

2) Know why you want to work for that dept (pay, benefits, location, future career goals). Know why you want to be a PO. Know about the city in which you are applying (name of mayor, Police Chief, Asst. Chiefs, population, ethnicity breakdown of pop.)

3) I'm sure you know the weaknesses in your background. Be able to explain how you have grown from them and learned your lessons.

4) Be able to explain what qualities you think are important in a Police Officer (integrity, honesty, teamwork, etc.) - Come up with your own...and why...

5) Think integrity and DOCUMENTATION when answering integrity senario questions. What is the best way to CYA and keep the dept out of hot water.

Hope these tips help...
