I know about concealed carry permits "out and about" but what about your own yard? Any problems with open carry on your own property?

None that I'm aware of. Of course, if you are waving it around at the neighbor over the fence during an argument, thats a different story............

Highpockets,
Your "own yard" could be many things but I am guessing you are referring to a residential situation.
Carrying a weapon veiwable to the public is not what most people would consider reasonable unless the person is a uniformed officer.
Regardless whether the law allows you to carry a weapon in such a manner you would probably be considered strange by your neighbors.

Thanks Kaos, I live in Mobile Alabama and I was referring to the land my home is on.

Around here it's more common to have guns than to not - many open carry rifles, shotguns etc. in their back truck window but I haven't noticed anyone with a pistol on their belt before.

Here in Chesapeake there's a law against carrying any loaded weapon in your vehcile. My dad got a ticket for it and he was pretty p*$$*d. It seems that the judges around here take "loaded firearm" to mean the weapon and ammunition are in the cab of the vehicle. If you have a CCW permit, it's no problem unless it's a loaded (one in the hole) long gun. I guess these have fired unintentionally before. As far as open carry, I don't know any officer who would bother you for it unless you were doing something else (menacing or brandishing). I guess it would depend on the state or local ordinance in Alabama, so you need to check with a local PD or Sheriff.

This is a question that has no clear cut answer as it depends entirely on the laws of your individual state.

South Carolina allows a person to carry a handgun, concealed or otherwise, "on his property or fixed place of business" regardless of whether one has a CWP.

That means that one can strap on a hogleg to go check the mail. It also means that you can carry in your office, or your store, or your garage, etc etc.

Legally a "Quickie Mart" store clerk could carry while working but the law also makes provisions for the employer/owner to prohibit the carrying of pistols by employees while at work.

Hope this helps.
