Strange question:
If someone is 37 years old + and gets hired by USSS-UD/BP or other "covered" position that hires older recruits can they still get hired by FBI/USPIS/DEA/etc even though they were deemed ineligible before for not being under 37.
I am former USSS-UD and don't know the answer, anyone know for sure?
Thanks -

Great question!
I have 4.7 years in the 12d coverage so I can reapply up to 41.7 years old.
But if I am 40 and get in (initial appoinment) can I transfer to FBI S/A a year after or during my employment? Wow, interesting question!
USPP and Capitol are covered under their own special provisions. USPP is an individual agency that does not operate on taxpayer money, but adopted 12d coverage for agents for rule sake.
If SSUD hire you at 40 do you mandatory retire at 57 or 60 yof. If its 60 I say no you can't transfer if its 57 I say yes. Very intriging!

You'd probably get the most definitive answer from the HR department of the agency you're planning on transferring to. This is an interesting situation. Keep us updated if you find out anything.

I'm guessing that any agency hiring an original post 36 y/o hire would have to be willing to offer an age waiver.

If I remember correctly, if you were in a covered position and left for a term of more than 3 years break in service you lose that coverage. I was doing some research on the OPM website just recently and remember reading something along those lines. So I guess what I'm saying is if you were in a covered position from 31 to 34 and tried to get on with another covered position at 37+ that time you served is null and void. Again, this was me reading over it looking for an answer to my situation so I could be wrong. And if you are over 37 applying to one of the agencies that has raised it's age restriction to 40, you wouldn't be able to apply with agencies that have the age restrictions set at 37 without a waiver. Maybe someone can prove or disprove this.

Good info.
Actually, this question is for someone who asked me. I had no clue, thought someone might know...I think the waiver is the only option.
