View Full Version : Who smells better...you or your spouse?

Of course, you have to go by the others (or an objective outsider's) judgement.

Here's why I ask: My wife is very annoyed with her deoderant. She says I smell better than she does. She can't understand how in the world I can wear a uniform, vest and all this gear and the next morning I still smell good. Okay, in reality it's the Old Spice stick deoderant who still smells good, not necesarily me.:D

But how do you fair in the smell test between you and your spouse or S/O?

That's funny!!

I cant take the test, i'm alone. But i will say - some people sweat more than others, and some people's sweat doesnt smell. Really it's true. My last longterm b/f could go days without smelling sweaty. I only know because times he was sick and didnt shower for a few days, there was no sweat smell.

The secret for a man not to smell is to shave his pit hair. The hair holds in the smell and the smell is actually bacteria. So therefore lose the hair, lose the smell.

I do.

My wife has tried many products, none of which work for her.

I use nothing; just shower or swim every day or so.

I've heard taking chlorophyll can help, but wife tried it and it either didn't work or she didn't stick with it long enough.

I shave mine, and it still can smell bad. Of course, I don't use deodarant period. Working long days out in construction in 80-100 degree weather coupled with NC's wonderful summer humidity...I worked with two other guys, so what was the point in even trying to smell nice?

I'm a hairless Asian....not because I shave it all, per se, but just because I got that lucky Asian gene of five-o'clock-shadow...maybe after five days .

Oh, but I had someone tell me once that changing your deodarant brand every so often was good (something about the body adapts to the one type of chemicals etc etc). I don't know if I believe that or not, though. I did find (at the risk of sounding even more metro...) that using women's deodarant/antiperspirant was very very effective. I sweat easily, but I don't stink usually...unless it's one of those hot summer days and I go running...

Most persons of Asian ancestry have a lower ratio of apocrine (usually more odor-producing) sweat glands to eccrine (generally less odor-producing) sweat glands than persons of more recently European or African ancestry, and consequently are less likely to exude as much "body odor".

There are discussions of, and research regarding, epitricial apocrine glands and the hypothesized but not entirely evident, last time I checked, apoeccrine gland.

If anyone wants a more complete account of all that, I'll be glad to provide one. What I've just said has some tendency to arrange ethnicities in order of propensity for stinkiness, and I think it's important to be careful about the possibility of playing into overideations about ethnicities, even when there is some support in natural facts for some of the hypotheses. It seems obvious to me that we're all adapted in accordance with environmental differences.

Monty

have a friend with a sweatiness factor - she can't stand it - but doesn't smell really - says Dove & the deoderant you mentioned works well -- have you tried Mitchem (or Mitchell - something w/a Mitch...) for women gel? Kinda expensive also, about $5 or something but a little goes a long way & it lasts a long looooooooooong time!

never heard of the "Mitch" stuff but thanks for the tips i will try it out the doveIt's called "Mitchum". There was a hilarious gag reel with Kris Kristofferson lying shirtless in a bed with purple satin sheets, trying for lots of takes to say the line "I didn't use anti-perspirant today, and I probably won't tomorrow", and he couldn't say it without busting up laughing. The idea was that Mitchum was so effective that you could skip a day or two.

How about the CV system? ....that's in a couple weeks!I would have to have more detail to make any specific-to-you comments, and I'm not a physician, so any remarks I might make wouldn't constitute medical advice. That said: GU/renal covers a lot. There is the possibility of GU conditions that are not closely related to renal conditions, and vice-versa, even though all of them might in your case be treated by the same urologist. Ultrasound imaging is often useful for determining the presence of kidney stones and for precisely locating them in conjunction with lithotripsy. If you might have serious CV problems, a variety of tests might be indicated, e.g. stress (treadmill), blood workups, respiratory function tests, PET, CAT, MRI, X-ray, fluoroscope, and others. Please feel free to PM me here or to email me at: c u 29@copmail.com. Please remove the spaces from cu29 if you want to email me. (edit - the server there seems to be down right now) The spaces are there for spambot avoidance. I hope your tests go well.

Well, let's see.

Someone mentioned something about switching deodorants.

I will have to say that is true, for me. It works great. I have
to say that if I do not switch every once in a while, it just
stops working. Oh, I use antipespirants.

But...I am the farthest thing from a metro, but trimming of
the pits should be done. (not shaved, weird) But having
hair that you can braid hanging out of your pits is weird too.
And it does make a difference in the smelly factor.

Well, I was teased back in high school for shaving my arms and legs...even though I didn't. I was never very hairy. Being asian with a darker complexion its difficult to tell if I have any hair, especially with what little I had. Eventually, I just started to shave it all off, since people assumed I did anyway. I actually like it; not to mention the muscle definition for me looks better, too :D.

Hi Glock,

Caffeine is a xanthine, and is a potent diuretic and moderate beta adrenergic agonist (with phosphodiesterase inhibition functionality), and moderate neurostimulant, and has moderate effects on renal partition coefficients, and locally stimulates the jejunum and duodenum and ileum and other parts of the GI tract causing it to flush material.

Coffee promotes urination, and promotes preferential elimination of some of its components into the bladder. Much of some of its odiferous components are passed into the bladder rather directly, without having been broken down into non-aromatic subcomponents. That occurs to a greater or lesser degree based partially on individual hepatic variation.

Consequentially it is to be anticipated that the urine will exude some odors similar to those that coffee does.

Depending on the hepatic variances, and on other factors, that might be more, or less, true for you than for other persons.

Bottom line: it's natural -- nothing to worry about, but try to be moderate about how much coffe you drink.

Regards,

Monty

Unless Honor Blackman played Emma at the start of the series, and I'm not aware of it, Dianna Rigg was Emma Peel - she was also the one and only Mrs. James Bond, in On Her Majesty's Secret Service...I had contact with John Steed (Patrick McNee [sp?]) when he came into the Hollywood Desk on some police matter.
