We're been packing the SIG 226 9mm for years and, sadly, the old warhorses are getting as long in tooth as Don. Current contenders for their replacement are the SIG 226 in .40 and the sigpro 2340.

The sigpros are several hundred dollars less a weapon that the Classic SIG. They would, however, require new leather gear and probably more transition training. Classic SIG would not require new leather and transition training would be minimal.

The Director and I both prefer transitioning to the SIG 266 .40, but there are strong arguments for the sigpro. Our sister municiality to the north swears by their sigpros and have improved scores on the Q course.

Anybody packing either burner? Opinions from those still sober enough to render them?
Be safe.

I've heard it go both ways for the Sig Pro, and people seem to love 'em or hate 'em.

I carry the P220, and it's as fine a piece of artillery as I've ever had. VSP have carried the 226 in 9mm for a number of years now, and they love 'em.

I can't speak for the 2340's. There are extensive discussions on this subject over at The Firing Line - search in the Handgun Forum. www.thefiringline.com (http://www.thefiringline.com)

Seems to me that new leather means holster and mag pouch, so tack on say another $150 or so per officer to make the switch to 2340. If'n it was me, I stay with the design I knew - unless of course, your scores are really all that bad. http://www.officer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Good luck, stay safe,

Our department carries the SIg P226 in .357 Sig. I agree with Dave, I would stick with what you know. We've had the Sigs for several years now and they've proven to be reliable and accurate. I do know several officers who own the Sigpros and are not real happy with them.
Depending on the size of your department, replacing the leather can run into some real expense (and we all know how the penny-pinchers are). I think our "powers to be" are beginning to wish they had gone with the .40 cal. .357 Sig ain't cheap!!!

The good thing is that it's still a SIG. Some of the differences you may come across is the cost. They have good grips and are balanced very nice. They are lighter weapons then the Classic SIG. They also have a better corrosion resistant frames. I have both a SIG Pro 2340 and a SIG P-226. I also have both the .40S&W and .357sig barrels. I do feel better control in double tapping or rapid firing the .357sig for the little extra weight. They are both SIG's so they are excellent weapons. The SIG Pro w/ the tact light is a pretty sweet looking weapon. They match well and smooth with the under body of the frame and trigger guard.

I"ve never had another sig except the pro2340 and I love mine so I'd go with that one but I'm biased.
