GA,
Isn't being a Glock armorer like being the Maytag repair man? I have 4 of em and only a few springs have been replaced over the years 10 years I have had them.
Are you a lonely armorer??? http://www.officer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Capt,

Glad your Glocks have been more reliable than mine. Had to have my Mod. 19 Glock repaired a few times while shooting it rather infrequently. Seems to be a problem with the fabrication of the ejector - has already chipped twice along with a couple of other problems.

Personally it is far from my favorite to shoot. While it is accurate it is by no means smooth. I shoot thousands of rounds through my S&W .45's (4506 and 457) and think they are superior firearms. Actually I don't know of any departments in my geographic area that issue Glocks for duty.

Guess its a matter of preference..

Stay Safe
Dave

Dave,
Sure is a matter of preference. I prefer the Browning Hi-Power and CZ75 actually, just not duty approved here.
I never liked the trigger pull on Smith autos until I handled one that came from the performance center... ZOWWWEEE what a beautiful weapon.

I always carry a back-up, because no weapon is 100% reliable and I like to have a spare.

Best wishes,
Schmooze

Speaking of GA...where is he? Time for a milk carton? I'll have to make a trip to Main Street and see if he's MIA.

Certified Glock-nut. So far I've had a 17, 19, 22, 23, 21 and a 27. Sadly, economics have forced me to trim the herd down a little http://www.officer.com/ubb/frown.gif

IMHO they are the perfect weapon. Keep your S&W's, Sigs, Colts and every other brand. I'll stick to my plastic water pistol. http://www.officer.com/ubb/smile.gif

Dave T,
All I can say is you are the exception to the rule. My Glocks have never let me down. I have owned and carried Glocks for the last 10 years. I am firmly convinced that the Glock is, IMO, the finest combat/duty weapon available in the world today. Indestructible, accurate, user-friendly, and drop-dead reliable!

Yes, being a glock armorer is not a particularly demanding job, but it comes in handy in terms of detail stripping for cleaning. Thats about my most common function in that capacity.

Lawdog,
I'm here, but I really wish I was at the Boot Hill right now!!

Took me awhile to get over my traditionalist "iron and wood" bias. I carried Colt .45's and a BHP for a long time.
(the bias was not limited to handguns, I'll take an M14 over a 16 anyday)Having said that, I admit that I am a Glockaholic now.I agree with GA. I have owned a 23 and 27 and now wear a 22 daily. The heat and humidity do not phase them, no levers to work and they go bang when required. Low maintanance, reliability and durability. 33 parts is it? A punch for a tool kit? I subscribe to the simple is good theory of things to keep you alive.GA how hard is it to install a new front sight?

I know what you mean Mack. I've got one in the trunk of my patrol car.

Its not hard at all. The factory front sight (non-night sight) is held on with a small plastic shim. Simply a matter of "poking" it out and replacing it. The Mep front night sight is held on by a tiny nut.

From the Glock Armorer's Manual:

FRONT SIGHT REMOVAL:
To remove the front sight from the slide, position the front of the slide in an upside down position over the edge of a table or workbench. While firmly holding the slide on the workbench , tap the front sight from the slide with a pin punch and small hammer (the slide may be held in a vice to perform this procedure. If a vice is used, be sure that protective jar covers are used so as not to damage the slide.)

FRONT SIGHT INSTALLATION:
Insert a new front sight into the front sight slot and press it flush with the top surface of the slide.

The new front sight should be placed on a smooth wood or plastic surface after it has been inserted into the slide to be sure it is not pushed out of the slide when inserting the fixing pin.

Insert a fixing pin in the slot in the base of the front sight, by hand or with the aid of long nose pliers.

With a flat screwdriver push the fixing pin into the base of the front sight.

Make sure that the fixing pin is just below the edge of the sight.

FRONT NIGHT SIGHT INSTALLATION:
Position the front sight in the slot, apply thread adhesive to thread, tighten screw snug. Do not over tighten or screw will snap and break.

Hope this helps.

I get my Glock parts at http://www.glockmeister.com/ they have neat stuff at reasonable prices. I have had work done by them and I am very pleased.

I too have heard good things about Glockmeister although I have had no personal experiences with them. I think someone at Glock Talk was saying that they're running a special on night sights right now, including installation.

Yep, here it is http://www.glockmeister.com/kit.html

Speaking of night sights who makes the best ones for a Glock? I own a G-22 and had Trijicons put on it but the dealer had a couple of different brands that looked relatively the same.

http://www.glockmeister.com/ sells both Trijicon and Meprolight, but he recommends Meprolight as they are brighter and about $15 cheaper. http://www.officer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
Meprolights do not come in any color other than green, where Trijicon will give you a green front and red/orange rear sight.
It all comes down to preference.

Glockarmorer,
Did you ever get the paddle holsters for you Glocks with the M3 light? Just curious, I spoke with the guy who makes them locally a few weeks back and he sells em out of his house for under $50.

MBH,
I have Trijicons on my G22 and G23 and Meps on my G27. The "dots" on the Meps are very slightly brighter and bigger than on the Trijicons but the difference is negligible. I really don't have a preference between the two. I like them both.

Mikey,
Nope, not yet. Still fighting the bureacratic red tape trying to get the M3's ordered at work. Hope to have them soon.

We can only carry Trijicons. I really like them, and have some that are over 10 years old.

As for being a Glock armorer, I can say that the majority of the work I do is sight installation. This is good, considering the cost of the Glock sight tools! At least I'm getting my moneys worth. I have done some upgrade stuff, but that's rare. Lots of sights....
