We take you now to Columbia, South Carolina, where a would-be robber is now taking the eternal celestial dirtnap.
Jonathan James Berry and his partner decided to rob two men at 1 a.m. last Thursday. They confronted their victims outside a motel. Berry was armed with a BB gun. Their intended targets were two men in the Columbia area on business.
It turns out the two victims were ex-military. Special Forces. They're some of the toughest soldiers you'll find. After Berry demanded money, one of the victims got into a struggle with him and pulled out a .22-caliber pistol. Berry was fatally shot in the aorta. The other victim shot Berry three times in the chest with a .45 semiautomatic pistol.
Berry is now food for worms. His partner is being held in the county jail. The police have no intention of charging either of the two victims, who were carrying their guns legally.
Contrary to what Rosie O'Donnell might tell you, people who carry concealed weapons are not ticking time bombs. They're not vigilantes with their own idea of justice. They're ordinary people who have arrived at the realization that personal safety begins with them. They're not cop killers. Not a single police officer has been killed in the line of duty by a citizen with a legally concealed firearm. States with high concealed-carry rates have lower crime than states banning concealed carry. Why? Because would-be robbers, rapists, and murderers want their victims to be unarmed. They won't take the chance of being shot by someone who's packing.
