View Full Version : A total ban

How many years do you think it will be til all private ownership of firearms is banned in this country?
I personally believe it will be before the turn of the next century. Some studies show that over half of the citizens favor banning firearms and find the second amendment to be outdated.
With the current media blitz on gun, that will only continue through the century, I think it is just a matter of time before we all lose our firearms.
I really don't believe there would be many who would fight to the death to keep their guns.
I have decided that while I value my weapons, I value seeing my grandkids and great-grandkids even more. Translated, I won't die to keep my firearms.
Flame away,
Mikey

Oh gosh...putting on my honest Abe hat.
I believe there will be a ban on guns in our future. As much as the idea detests me, I believe the government will make it happen.

Since cops tend to die soon after retirement, I probably wouldn't have to go that long without a gun.

I'm gonna live to be 100. I will call 911 everyday, just because I am lonely. I will also have free coffee and donuts for the responding officers. http://www.officer.com/ubb/wink.gif
C'mon Nite, don't ya wanna chase the nurses at the old cops retirement home? You can have a wheelchair with a lightbar and siren. http://www.officer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif I look forward to the frisking part of that stop. http://www.officer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

The frisking part does sound fun, but facts are facts. Especially if I continue doing some of the assignments I've done. It always seems like the ones with the most adrenaline junkie assignments go fastest after it's over.

Second Amendment was vitally important when it was written, and still retains that importance. But I would not risk my life to execute a search and seizure in support of it's being repealed. I'd just turn my weapons in, find a new career, and plot to overthrow if the government became despotic.

G30man:
I don't think a total weapons ban will happen in the US in the foreseeable future.
If it does not include the police and military, it hardly qualifies as total; however, I'll assume for the moment that the scenario you envision includes the police having access to guns as might be necessary, but not carrying them on a regular basis.
If the ban did not include confiscation of all guns, it would merely transfer power from the law abiding persons it disarmed to the bad guys, who would drool at the prospect of safer predation, and not stop carrying weapons.
If it did include confiscation, some persons would resort to less selective weapons, such as may be fashioned by those with a good knowledge of science and engineering, and others, with different purposes in mind, would revert to the old projectile weapons, such as bows and slings.
I think all prohibitionists, including those who ban guns, will lose eventually, because they are wrong in their analyses, and one day everyone will know that.
CustomsCop:
A government that confiscates all the guns is already despotic.

Monty,
I hope you are right, I sincerely hope I am wrong about this issue.
When I said, "total ban", I wasn't clear, sorry for that. What I meant was a ban on ownership outside the military and leo organizations.
Also to clarify. I consider myself a citizen with some privileges due to my vocation. I speak concerning firearms ownership from the citizens perspective, not the leo perspective. I in no way think the military or le should have all the weapons.
In fact, I am very concerned about the arming of some of my co-workers. http://www.officer.com/ubb/eek.gif
I am well aware that only the criminal element would have firearms, even if there was a "total confiscation". This fact does not seem to phase the gun grabbers.
Here I am referring to the real criminals, not those of us who would be criminals due to having kept our guns.
On a lighter note. After a few bad guys showed up in the ER with a crossbow bolt sticking out of their chest, we might get out guns back. More humane ya know. http://www.officer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.officer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
Best wishes,
Mikey

I see it happening in my lifetime if registration is emplaced. thats all the anti's are looking for....a quick and easy way to target the law-abiding. They'll brand everyone who disagrees with them a criminal in the court of public opinion.

I hope we do not wind up like the other countries that banned handguns to reduce the crime rates. In England cviolent crime is up 27%.
Anyone who thinks that is a solution is silly.

Ok, don't think I'm paranoid or crazy (even though I am) I just like to vent every so often, like every other minute.
So, no one would die to protect that right? I understand that some of you value your family over anything else. So do I. And that is why I would rather fight, and die if need be, to protect that right for MY son! I'd do it with pride, with every ounce of my being. No, I'm not a wacko. I'll comply with the law as much as I can. But when they enact registration/confiscation, I won't comply.
I have a question for everyone: Having been given the order to do so, how many of you would raid people's houses to confiscate any firearms that might be there, knowing that it is wrong and only turns citizens into victims of a tryant? Knowing that following those orders, you may have to murder someone whose only transgression was refusing to give up and willfully throw away his/her Rights?
Would you stand idly by and watch while military troops did the same?
Not me. I still believe that my freedom, and that of the people around me, is only safe while we have the right to keep and bear arms.

cpierson1,
I would not confiscate. I would be looking for a new job, actually I would refuse the order, make them fire me and collect unemployment for awhile. http://www.officer.com/ubb/smile.gif
I would probably be a subversive of some type, but a straight out armed confrontation would be sheer folly. IMHO.
I used to be a "pry it from my cold dead hands" type, but now I have mellowed and prefer a less direct approach to the issue.
BTW, you are not paranoid, they really are out to get you. http://www.officer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I fear you are correct, the whole Bill of Rights is doomed. It is terribly inconvenient for the government to have to govern an armed population, and to quote General Burgoyne, after his defeat by Massachusetts and New York farmers "dangerous".
The Congress, Courts and President have all done thier parts to make "the congress shall enact NO LAW" empty.
Since I've already been retired for three years I may not be around for your reply much less to see how it all turns out.
