I recently went to the indoor practice range with a friend. He's a full-time officer and a certified gun nut. He brought his BHP, and I shot it for the first time. WOW!! I am, and will continue to be, a fan of the Glock, but I have never shot a weapon more accurately before. I'm talking about 20 yd groups small enough that it's hard counting the 15 holes. 1.5" to 2". I can get 3" from my 19, but I was really excited about this.

Considering the fact that this pistol is as good as it is, why is it not more widely used? I understand Glocks for tactical reasons, but when accuracy is a must, I think there could be better choices. Just wanted to know your thoughts on this.

BTW, I have never had much marksmanship training with handguns. I was wondering if there are any books you could recommend that might help me with this.

Personally, I LOVE the Hi-Power. I am considering getting one of my own instead of the SIG I mentioned in the other forum.

I LOVE the single actions. I tend to hit better with them too!

I think the reason that you don't see them in patrol service much is that most departments won't allow their officers to carry single action firearms. I don't really understand this, but...

You will see a fair amount of Hi-Powers and Colt 1911's on tactical units, though, where rapid and accurate is a must for hostage rescue.

Darnit! Now you've got me wanting a Browning!! http://www.officer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

You hit the nail on the head Sparky.

Hi-Powers are a good weapon. We had an officer come from Lake Jackson a few years ago and when she got here she had to give her Browning up because our dept doesn't allow single action pistols. I thought she was gonna cry.

I owned a Browning HP for quite some time, but had to sell it about 8 years ago when money was short. I truely miss this pistol and have regretted having to part with it.

BTW I have never owned any semi-auto pistol (with the exception of a Colt Gold Cup.45 acp) that could even come close to its out of the box precision. I once made a 85 yard head head shot (from a supported position of course) on a rock chuck. Never been able to duplicate that with any other pistol.

If you have or get one, hang onto it! It is a keeper!!!!

Anyone know how much they sell for nowadays? I think it's the Model III that is the basic practical version....

Anyone...

And can you get high capacity mags for 'em??

Mags are everywhere. The South African 17rd are great.I carried a 1970's vintage BHP for a long time.I love them.I needed a G22 for duty use and was cash poor so I sold it. I regret it.Lots of High Powers out there for sale.I don't have my SGN handy but I got $400 for mine with 8 mags.It was clean. No finer 9mm handgun in the world IMO.
