View Full Version : Concealed Weapons Laws

A judge in Cincinnati (where I live) ruled back in July that the ban on concealed weapons laws is unfair to law-abiding citizens. A week later after much protest on the behalf of gun control supporters, the Court of Appeals reversed it stating that the initial judge did not have the legal authority to make such a ruling.
What do you guys think? For or against concealed carry laws and why so?

If one is a law-abiding citizen, of sound mind, one should be permitted to carry a concealed handgun. There are many situations that are covered in the news that could have been preempted by an armed citizen.

I've long supported CCF laws and will continue to do so. I makes sense.

I'm totally for CHL's. Armed citizens are a deterrent to crime. The turds never know if their target is armed and may be able to defend themselves. What better deterrent is there?
Reminds me of a couple years ago of an incident in College Station, Texas. A turd thought he would steal a college kids bike in the wee morning hours. The only thing the turd didn't consider was (1) college kid paid a LOT of money for that custom made mountain bike (2) college kid was up studying for an exam (3) college kid was armed (4) Texas law allows deadly force to protect against theft in the nightime. Result--turd got a bullet in the leg as he fled and the college kid was no-billed by the Grand Jury. Score one for the good guys!
Ludicrous you say? Bicycle not worth that? Consider the facts. Bicycles on average are $200+ (the cheap ones). Average number of bikes reported stolen in one day--15-20. Total that up among the 4 major agencies that work this area and you run into a great deal of money lost.
oh, BTW, C.S.'s bike thefts went WAY DOWN after that shooting! http://www.officer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I fully support citizens carrying, concealed or open, for their defense.
However, I took a CCW class and their also needs to be a minimum competency level greater than a 10 round qualification at 5 yards. That aside, I still fully support an armed society.
Well armed,
Mikey

FL doesn't even require that you fire the gun, only safety training. Still, our stats regarding improper use etc. speak very highly of the holders.

Nite,
Our stats in AZ do also. I am happy with the safety numbers nationwide for ccw. The people can be trusted with sharp sticks... http://www.officer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif Not so sure about some of our peers though. http://www.officer.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

permission slips?
I'm against them! The 2A states that "the right to Keep and bear arms shall not be infringed". Asking the government permission and paying fees to exercise a right turns that right into a priveledge. we should be pushing for Vt style carry, not restrictive carry, which is what CCW's are. Not only that but they are a backdoor gunowner registration scheme. They are unconstitutional!
"No State shall convert a liberty into a privilege, license it, and charge a
fee therefore."

Yep, and I really like it here. Criminals might be armed, but then again, so might the good guys.
