and erich gave you a good source with the "policebackgrounds.net" website.....
Starting pay has now moved up to $60,009 (academy trainee) to $81,500 /yr before longevity and specialty pay. when you apply ,expect to apply for ALL the city of L.A police units(LAX,PORT,General Services),including the primary dept-LAPD.......

LAUSDPD is not a city agency. At the top of your initial application for any of the LA city agencies you check off boxes of which dept(s) you wish to apply for. Many will suggest all of them, even though the background process is the same and you will go to the same academy one dept may take you faster than the other if at all. Due to hiring needs and budget as well as test scores the 4 depts are looking for different things at different times. At any time during the process you can remove yourself from one of the depts processes but you can not add one in the middle, have to start a new process.

how is LAUSD's pay?
talked to a LASPD officer when they were at my depts shooting range- pay is about $52K to $70K/yr ( not high, but avg for so.Cal) before you consider their longevity pay and bonuses+ OT$$ compensation(don't know of ANY copper in so.Cal that doesn't make at least $70-$80K on the avg in terms of pay). They have the 3%@50 PERS retirement which is sweet and i think LAUSD pays their full medical.Like alot of local Depts, they are definitely NOT up to their total max manpwoer,so i know they need people to replace what they routinely lose thru retirement, promotion and disability
