Hey guys,
Im a deputy up in Northern California and i had questions about badge repairs. My badge has some discoloration on it and want to get that fixed. Does anyone know of any places that would do that for me? And how long that would take? Would jewlers be able to do this type of repair? Thanks in advance for any info !!

Unless you are retired ,you should go into your dept and turn the badge in- the company that created the badge ( here in so.calif its the "sun badge company" fro LAPD,LAXPD,PORT and GSDPD,+ L.A. Schools PD) usually will do the repairs , polish the badge ,and recoat it- this takes about 3-4 wks( from my experience)from the the time the dept turns in the badge 'til they ship it back. YOU SHOULD NOT drop your badge off to a jewel for repairs. While alot of them can do the baisic repairs(spot welding of emblems, polishing and recoating, even the enameled work) remember you are giving it to a private concern who has no contract with your dept, nor obligated to safeguard what is still property of your city /dept.

Take it to your agency and have them send it in for repair. Most, if not all, badge companies now require a letter from the COP/Sheriff for authorization to repair or recondition a badge.

As the others have said.....give it to your agency and they should take care of it. They will also be able to provide you with a temporary replacement so you are not without a badge while yours is gone for 3-4 weeks. (at least ours does)

For the City of Merriam, I wonder if the dept had to issue new badges in 2001.

No, those are special badges. We can wear a different badge on our anniversary month and only that month. I'm sure it's that way for that department. SDPD is that way also.

Long Beach had a millienium badge. You could wear it only that year.

The state seal on the middle of my badge fell off. I just turned it in to the department and they gave me a brand new badge in return.
