My dad's retired LAPD, and he doesn't like the way the department is going, nor the way LA City is going, so definitely talk to other officers and see what they think and feel. He advised me to go CHP over 30 years a go because, as he put it, you can be treated poorly in the city, or you can go anywhere in the state and be treated poorly. At least with CHP you could get out of LA if you so desired.

hey good luck....let me know how it goes, I too came to Cali from a different state. I came out here with my wife and kids from Chicago (a PO for 8 yrs there). I am currently in the RIO HONDO Police Academy for an agency. I want so despertly to obtain a BCW, I just want to get out and work. I am actually going through the process for the BCW but I just sent off my information/documents two weeks ago. I'll probably be done with the academy by the time they get to my packet. Let me know how the process went and how the test was....Good Luck again.
Good luck. And make sure you get to jfk early! It is worse than LGA or newark!

Just for that remark,"may your career nose dive into 15 yrs of south div,CHP".......BTW CHP officers have been attacked, injured, assualted ,even killed more so in northern and central CA. than they have done in the wilds of L.A. and L.A. county. The CHP is a good dept, but they are NOT the "piece of heaven" you make it out to be.....

Well its day 3 for me. I passed Written, Initial Background, and Physical.
They said my POLYGRAPH TEST was INCONCLUSIVE!!! WHAT A BUNCH OF @*&#%! BS!!! :::::deep breath:::::
ANyway I am rescheduled to re-take it again at 0700 tomorrow morning. Granted everything goes well then I have my written psych and oral board interview. Im praying it all goes well because I cant afford to take off work at my PD back east and fly out here again. The Poly-voodoo-grapher witch doctor dude said it was probably inconclusive because I didnt get enough sleep and this morning I drank coffee, took 2 ripped fuel and went jogging so that could have made my nerves jittery and my muscles contract. So wish me luck for tomorrow, Im gonna get some mexican food and take a nap. Later.

Ever tell you about the first time I was "home" ( moved in when my then girlfriend bought the condo for us) well ,it was about 1am and I stopped at this donut shop on Sand canyon( *every Damn thing closes in SCV at about 9pm)- the asian owner ,looked at me as I entered the door , and before I could even ask, gave me a pink box with a dzn assorted in it! I tried to pull out some money but he waived me off,and I asked "why?"- he then told me . " I know you're a cop and I take care of cops" I was wearing a hooded sweatshirt and nike blk nylon sweats(no fanny pack),so I further asked how he knew ,and he then told me in bad english," look you the ONLY blk man in santa clarita I've seen this time of nite, and you haven't tried to rob me-not like you could anyway ! LOL!!! If you lived on the "civilized" side of the valley, you'd blend in more and find more businesses open late. More cops moving in here from the eastside, Acton and Palmdale probably due to higher gas prices.

"SANNNNNTAH' CLARRRRITA /VALEN'CHA" snobs !!!LOLOLOLOLOLOL:D:D
Funny historical NOTE- back when SCV was the "backwoods" and coyotes roamed freely with deer and other critters ( saw one riding a mattress down in the wash once when it was raining really bad over here in '04!) middle class Blk folks came up here to escape the 'hood and went to a "all blk camp/country club" called Val Verde- 60 yrs later ,the snobbery still rages on:D:D:D

Have you ever seen the "Barbie" series? Palmdale Barbie, Canyon Country Barbie, Valencia Barbie, etc...? Pretty funny. I spent most of my married life on the eastside and the two best things I liked about it was Le Chine and the Backwoods Inn! There's still a lot of people moving in, but not a lot of good eats.

And 18 miles up San Fran Cyn. from Copperhill is a little community with a fair sprinkling of LEO's that call it home.
Heck, we don't even have sidewalks to roll up at 8 o'clock.

That sucks. It's a regular crime wave out there! I've heard LASD SCV deputies complaining that the burglaries are out of control. (Out of control=soon to be in the double digit numbers) Sorry to hear about your buddy. Perhaps the I/O can do some follow up and recover something. It seem like the investigators out here do that a lot.

Wow, I knew Santa Clarita was full of police officers and firefighters but it is very interesting to see all of the forum regulars live out here. I like the area but I agree with you...I wish there were more dining options. BTW Le Chene and Backwoods are just awesome!
BTW, if SCT is dealing with a major crime wave, does that mean the station is going to be considered a "fast" station in the near future?:D

I don't think the LASD Henry units that do their 40 on Pyramid Lake would agree; nor would the County Police on Castaic; or the game warden that's going to hike Piru Creek this afternoon and catch deer spotlighters in the surrounding hills when the sun goes down.
The temperature and scenery up here can be just fine if you know where to be.;)

Salt Creek grille. baby !!! (661)222-9999 (no- it"ain't" west Latte, ala West L.A,Malibu ,Santa monica,Bev hills,or West Hollywood hip, but its nice enough)

Two reasons- alot of folks commute to work and homes are often unoccupied for hours(not very many neighbors at home to "notice' strangers around) and economy- lots of dregs and dopers about who KNOW where the "good stuff" is- not throwing a blanket indictment on all ,but WATCH who you get to do contract work on your home.....

Salt Creek Grille isn't bad, but it's always been inconsistent for me...I do like their bacon wrapped shrimp though.
As far as watching those contractors, already do. NONE and I mean none are allowed on our property without myself or one of my parents present. We also learned the hard way once that always change your locks when you buy a new home...you have no idea how many copies of the keys are floating around out there. My family moved into a new neighborhood in TO (I know, TO having new neighborhoods haha) went out to dinner one night, came home and found footprints all over the house. We had had the carpet cleaned earlier in the day and it was still drying so the burglar's footprints were all over the place. Funniest bit (even though it wasn't too funny as my mom had some expensive jewelry lifted) was that the schmuck took his kid along for the ride...there was a pair of little footprints that went everywhere daddy's did.

Im back in NJ.
I passed everything while I was in LA and I also got my POST Ceritication Waiver. Everything went very well. Now Im just waiting for the BI to call me so we can get this show on the road. When I left the BI shook my hand and said good luck I look forward to working with you. He also said that a BI for a civilian takes 2-4 months but that since I have been a cop for 8 years in NJ that my BI should go a bit quicker. Im stoked, I cant wait to get my job offer and move out to LA. I already looked at a house in Santa CLarita.
